Exactly. I ain't out here to work myself to death. If I can live comfortably, which I do on $25k/year net then I'm doing just fine. I like having land too, nice to be able to do exactly what you described lol

Just everything a little brown this year with the drought!! Oh well, everything goes in cycles. It is a nice little place. On a hill top. I can listen to the coyotes running around at night, see the fireworks on the 4th of July for 3 towns from my south lawn, have good neighbors that look out for each other. It isn't quite a Norman Rockwell painting, but it is as close as a person can get. I wish a lot more people could enjoy little things in life that mean something.aiwiron and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

You're reading something into my posts that is not in my posts. I do not support EOBR being mandated and never have. I do not have an EOBR on my truck nor any sort of "black box".
I use "Driver's Daily Log" software, you download that for free off the web, Google it. It is no different from your looseleaf. It is on a laptop and saves a person an enormous amount of time wasted with repetitive nonsense one has to do every day filling out logs.
That's my only point about software logs, or EOBR they are vastly superior to filling out paper logs. One of those instances where computers save time. I never once posted comments about the politics of mandates however I do think anyone who can't see the writing on the wall and adapt is going to suffer. -

Laptop goes down, cannot produce logs= problems
I do not have to boot up my log book, no floppy disk or other problems in relation to electronic anything.
I was not attempting anything political nor referenced it, like I said already done all the so called digital logs and mechanical that has been used over the years. They all have a fault and have been imperfect for years.
If a paper log book takes more than 15 minutes a day to keep up then that is something I would like to see where it is taking that amount of time, I have ran local and long distance using paper and never has taken more than 15 minutes a day to keep a neat and clean log.
Boils down to what makes it easy for you may not be what is good for others, the writing on the wall I see is that things are going to hell in a hand basket.DrtyDiesel, BoyWander and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
My laptop is always on and never has to be booted up. If the computer crashes and just won't start back up I can start that day using paper logs as a back-up until I get the computer back online. I print off every logsheet at the end of the day so I've got all of those in a 3 ring binder prior to the computer crash. I can do logs on my laptop in a third of the time it takes anyone scribbling chicken scratch on paper. I learned a long time ago when I was a rookie - anything a driver can do to save 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there on ordinary routines during the day is worth doing. I have routines for everything I do in or around the truck all in the name of getting it done as quickly and safley as possible without any extra or wasted effort. The only way I can see DDL not working for someone is if their computer skills are a little limited, which for most guys posting here on a regular basis, I would expect that not to be the case. I know of about a dozen regulars here who use DDL and every one of them hands down will likely tell you the same thing I am, if you ever did try it out you'd kick yourself for not using it sooner. I can go on but you get the picture this is not a 9-5 job.All these drivers that claim they love EOBR they don't know any better they think its normal to drive up to a fuel island, and have that get out my way attitude.Don't take my word for it drivers next time you are on the fuel island just look around you and watch them,and I bet most of them who are in a hurry have EOBR.I have nothing against EOBR but hours of service need to change,don't punish the driver if they feel like taking a couple of hours off.

I honestly don't rush anything. I agree the hours of service need to change no doubt.
Its not that I don't know any better its just what I've come into when I started in this industry. I don't really get tired so I don't mind driving all day. Of course I am young still lol.
Id like to see the 14 clock get taken away or at least the 70 rule be thrown out.
