Technically I'm a company driver as well, but I'm paid on commission rather than by the mile, and I book my own loads about half the time. And we haul spot market freight exclusively. So yes, I suppose I could be considered a rate and broker specialist. Thanks for pointing that out, anj.

there's a difference between a driver looking for a load to haul and a secretary looking to find a hauler for the cheapest rate possible to maximize there pockets.
your the driver, LS being the secretary. -
This is great info for a BCO to have. So basically we can expect the rates to go down even farther now. I have heard other BCO's talking about this, but I wasn't sure if they were just blowing smoke. Seems like they were not....wonderful
-
Sad part is that there will always be some idiot that will haul it.
"As long as me wheels are turning me makin money"
Yea...well...When you haul freight at or below your actual cost, it's like your PAYING them for the priviledge of hauling THEIR freight.
I have always enjoyed working with Landstar, but if they start this crap.....

It's just a program have any of you ever utilized or is this all just wild speculating on what it is? It either works out for someone or not. It's not like there aren't other avenues. Landstar owes no loyalty to anyone they are the definition of free market.

somewhere on this thread was talking about 10+ mpg trucks starting to roll out. don't know how true that would be. but if that's the case. then you can defenitly expect rates to drop. -
They owe loyalty to their own drivers!!!
You know me, i have no clue. But LSAGENTOZR definatley does, and going by his explaniation, it would seem that LS agents have regular lanes (FedEx, Estes, Conway, Walmart) freight and they are to offer it out on a "bidding" basis. The cheapest carrier wins and then we can no longer get those runs. With the soft market, it hurts OUR drivers. It is a great thing for those NOT leased to Landstar. I was just stating that it seems like the fact we are THEIR in-house drivers, we'd get a little more respect and consideration. But as I've found out here, LS is all about getting their two dollars first, before I get my 1.... I may be joining you soon if it keeps up this way.
It's a matter of principal to me. I'm on the platform side, so we don't usually see regular lanes, and thus this system doesn't really affect me. But someday, that may change and they might find some way to make an extra $4 on every load and I wind up losing out $100, just because they wanted that extra little bit -
Really it's not such a great thing for outside carriers. I wouldn't have anything to do with that freight it's all cheap. Likely even on the BCO side it's not paying all that great. Here's the thing - you've got a head on your shoulders use what you know and work with the good agents. There will always be good agents who have good freight they give to their go-to people. Sure there will be guys come in and underbid on it but you can't controll that. It's like LSagentOZR always says, it's all in the networking - the most important part of this business imo. I know we all like to think that a carrier should have loyalty to it's own contractors but the truth of the matter is it's business and doesn't ever work that way.
SHC Thanks this. -
Rob,
I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. Most of the loads I've seen on their are stuff BCO's don't want anyway. They aren't brokering the better loads out and the most of the agents who are committed to the BCO's like we are, likely won't be using it. We're only going to use it on the hardest lanes we have to cover.fireba11 Thanks this.
