Yes you can. Next time come out of Maspeth and get onto the LIE (495) and go west, then take the BQE (E) up to the Triboro. Just be mindful that you need to get off onto Astoria Blvd where the BQE meets the Grand Central PARKWAY, which is before the Triboro bridge. Astoria runs parallel to the Grand Central and is a marked truck route. Don't stress it, if you miss it and end up on the Grand Central you are an idiot and don't deserve to be in a truck it's that well marked.

On this map that you can order for free http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/truckrtemaprequest.shtml it says you can go over a few bridges that YOU CANT, example: It says we can go through brooklyn battery tunnel, williamsburg bridge, manhattan bridge, Trucks can ONLY use GW bridge or Verrazano. NO Tunnels, No parkways. I still took the liberty to take this map and personalize it, looking up on google maps & google earth to get a street veiw level of the streets for low clearances and most of the blue colored local streets check out fine!

Lincoln tunnel if under 13', its either the manhatten or the williamsburg bridge is a truck route from bk into lower manhatten. Throngs neck, whitestone and rfk are ok also. Remember, nyc says a six wheeler is a truck, so some common sense must be used but if it was only the verezzano or the gw being the only legal way it.would be one bad day for everbody.

the best thing to do is park on the road side and figure out your next move. know a way in & a way out before you enter the city.

My personal opinion is that New York is the ARMPIT of humanity! I hate NY! I will not go there.

My company wants me to go to Brooklyn to pick up a load. I have a full cab sleeper and 53' reefer, so I'm well over the 55' limit. I'm illegal, right? The dispatcher claims they send trucks in there all the time. Who is right? NY DOT or my dispatcher?
I'm supposed to travel from I-80 to I-95 eastbound, to I-87 South, then I-278 South, then ? How can I find out the toll charges I'm expected to pay? And do they take debit card? -
Yes, you are illegal. If they enforce it where your going is questionible. Ive gone in with a full sleeper and a 48' with no problem but you got the big 53' on the front of your trailer. Gw bridge-$65 jersey into nyc only Rfk bridge $35 each way i believe. Cash or prepass only to my knowelge. Try googling nyc tolls for the exact info.

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to find out (at this late hour) if our company has a permit to enter NYC with our trucks. Is Queens considered New York City?
-
My impression was that you'd be in trouble in MANHATTAN, not Brooklyn or Bronx. After all, how in the world are the majority of today's reefers, which are 53' long, going to get to Hunts Point in the Bronx if you can't have anything but a 48? No, no, no. Manhattan only.
