My Lowmax is all over the place pulling a flatbed. This last month I've managed 10.2mpg but I also did not pull a load over 8,000# and it was all about 2' high on the deck. Last month I avg 6.2mpg pu;ling just about everything under the sun. But if I load a empty container I go down to 4.8mpg.... so i feel an aero truck in flatbed is kind of pointless.

Most of the time I run 100,000 lbs gross. Atlantic Canada and Quebec and every now and then a load to the GTA. It's higway, twolane, flat and hills, a little bit of everything. I average 5.25 mpg, that includes wintertime. With the International I had before this one I did 5.5, that one had a C15 475hp, 1850 torque.
I feel this truck can do way better. Just today all highway from Riviere du Loup Qc to Napanee On i did 6.55 mpg. Normally I hardly get 5.5 on this rather flat highway part of the trip. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm curious what tomorrow will bring...
I cannot say whether driving an aerotruck helps or not. Think it might save a little but not more then 2 or 3 percent.
Will keep you posted how things develop... -
Well Dice, there you have it, it appears that the jury is in. After 3 weeks, your OP question....
gathered ZERO "thanks" and after just ONE week my response..
gathered 5 "thanks". I guess you have your answer.DrtyDiesel, last 1, wanna_be_trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
i don't understand the classic attitude if company don't invest in their product they tout it is classic u don't see people driving ford model T any thing that refuses to evolve goes extinct ie classic trk and their drivers therefore shortage of trk driver no one wants to drive the junk on the roads now. The trucking companies are starting to invest now in trk design and engine they are trying to catch up and pass Volvo, freighter is at the forefront now with their cascadia's but even now their quality is so bad they have not caught up to the cars in quality control. I wish the Japaneses would start building class 8 trucks maybe then the rest will offer better warranty and quality control right now it is trying to find the better junk to drive.

Ya, thats what we need. Japanese trucks with sticking throttle pedals.
solidified and kubotaorange76 Thank this. -
Doesn't invest in a product? More like if it don't need changing and it still sells why change it? There's a truck for everybody out there hood, aero whatever you want. Just drive what makes you happy and be done with it.
Licensed to kill, MNdriver and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Amen.
To the earlier post about resale values, well you also need to take into account the original price of the equipment. Just pulling something off the truck paper means NOTHING unless you also can show the original MSRP or list price as speced out new. I would think that a lot of the time the reason hoods demand more in the used market is because there are always TONS of wannabe hood fanatics slobbering over themselves to get ANYTHING that looks the part. I have never seen ANY real reason a similar hood would draw more money vs a similar speced Aero, other than the SUPPLY and DEMAND aspect. Like I said, there are a lot of "hoodies" out there hiding in an Aero closet, just waiting to take a run down low MPG beast no matter the profitability of the beast so long as they look cooool doing it..or as one other driver put it,,,it is more "fun" to drive a hood, right? Yes, its all about fun. It has nothing to do with business or profit. Crap, I forgot that!! LOL I actually have a lot more FUN making good money vs. the driving part. Last time I checked, driving was a job. -
Driving is a job to some, but for me its my life. Trucking is my lifestyle, not just a job. Ive been out on the road for 22 days, now im sitting at home. I got 4 days off and ive been home for 2 days, i get anxious to get back on the road. I eat, breathe, think, and talk trucking 24/7. Its what I think about every night and what I talk about with my friends and family.
I'm wanting to get a hood truck not to look cool, for me its about what a truck is supposed to look like, a classic style.wanna_be_trucker Thanks this. -
Ok so here is a question for you while I have your attention. Life is about achieving a balance, in my opinion. Pete has done it and so has KW with their "hybrid" models. I think that is why trucks like the 600,660 and now the 680 will always be around. Personally, I love the new 680. The ergos are all new. THe 700 is just a refreshed T2000, so NO thanks on that. There is also the Coronado. So would you consider something like the 660 or 680? I believe those models get almost 3% better mpg due to the better aerodynamics.

I happen to like my Century. I think it looks pretty sharp.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
