You need to flush it some more. 12 gallons of water and 1 hour is not enuff. Fill it with water and liquid dawn. Turn the heater on in cab and bunk. Run WFO for 1 hour. Drain and repeat until it comes clear. Probably take 3 times.

Before I take it apart again you are saying that I need to run dawn dish soap though the radiator a couple of times.

yes dawn dish soap, tide, simple green all these things work, flush two times.go to auto parts store and find coolant flush kit for a car or to accommodate 3/4 inch hose.Fill truck with water.tap into your heater core return line with the flush kit you buy. After the truck gets to full operating temp(be careful)pop rad cap and turn the garden hose on full blast and it will push oil out of system through the rad cap.do this till the water coming out of rad cools down or system is clean, repeat as needed, this is one of the more pain in the ### things to do on the truck.

ok Should I go ahead a take it apart or should I drain all the antifreeze first then run it for awhile with fresh water and dish soap. Or should I go ahead and take it apart and take the oil cooler back and get another.

If you are a gallon low on oil after you have replaced the cooler the first time then either the new cooler is leaking or you didn't top off the oil from the first time. If you topped it off and it was full then the second cooler you just put in is bad so then you should tear in back down and replace it.

    Excellent responses superhauler.
From the looks of your oil cooler vendor you have an aftermarket rebuild so your oil cooler is suspect. You have a 90 day warranty(yikes).
The fuel injector cups were a serious issue with the 3406E. That being said. Where did you have the injector cups replaced. I do not know of any aftermarket injector sleeves for the Cat 3406E but I could be mistaken. In fifteen years selling parts I rarely have seen two sets of injector cups go to one Cat. It was a problem "remidied" by Cat with improved design. Although it is not always practical to have the Cat dealer repair your truck, I would never reccomend after market parts on an engine that you plan to continue to own and operate. Especially with the 3406E(even the filters, if anything it looks cooler). CAT's products are often of very high standard, and their parts warranty policy is unmatched. Of course the maintenance standards as far as warranty and core acceptance go they are very strict(follow Engine operation/maintenace manual). This goes for the 3406E etc. Not these newer motors Cat has blah...What happened to Cat?
Sorry don"t know how I missed the second page of this thread...oops. Still did not see the Cat affiliation on Young and Sons website though.
To flush I reccomend a box of Cascade. When I worked at Pete, in the nineties, it was all the shop ever used.

i don't agree with your statement. You wil get oil in the water. had the same problem on a NTCE335 small camm Cummins. The cooling system wil get pressurised though, don't know if this is the case. If there is no excessive pressure in the cooling system I suspect the oil cooler.
