Dead heading, not only are you pulling an empty trailer, but you are on your way to a city to get a new load most of the time. If you are a company driver you get paid to pull that empty trailer. If you own your truck, most of the time you are losing money every empty mile you are driving. Hope this helps!

You got the log part of this right. You got the sleeping right to. As far as the company paying for a hotel every night, get that in writing from that liar. Smile.
Sharing sheets, and bed. Well you have that a little wrong. Here is the way that really works. When that truck is rolling down the interstate, or even moving in a truck stop, you MUST be in the bottom bunk. There are no restraints or safety stuff to sleep on the top bunk when that truck is rolling. When you have a team in a truck, you roll your bedding up at the end of your sleep time, and the other person makes the bed the way they want to with their own bedding. That is why most places tell you to bring a sleeping bag. What ever that CDL teacher tells you to do, DO NOT FALSIFY YOUR LOG BOOK. It is not worth all the tickets you can get at a scale. Also, if you have never driven a big rig before, your instructor should be in the jump seat. Watching your mirrors, teaching you were you need to swing wider than you think, and there to help the first time you miss a gear going up hill. You have so much to learn in 4 weeks, your brain will hurt... Enjoy this, and take lots of picutres, even of your screw ups, cause you only learn this once.

Good advice! I think if you just use common sense and respect for the person you're sharing a space that indonesian families might consider too small everything will work out O.K.

I actually drove for Rhoel for a short period . . . they weren't terrible, but not as good as I had hoped.

Yep, absolutely correct . . . in fact I hardly ever got/needed a reset, and if I did, that meant my miles were pretty intense before and I didn't mind the break anyway. I had a 3500 mile week which I didn't think was possible, but as long as you don't burn your 70 HOS "on duty" and preserve it for driving as much as possible, very doable.
