    Hey ya'll!

So, after a couple of years with Giant Blue Student Mill Inc., now I'm going with WEL. Many thanks to ice.cold.trucker, lazygecko, and katiev for the info here.

Question for the WEL drivers regarding driver unloading... Any of ya'll choosing to do this regularly? Seems like it could be a win-win, make some extra $$ and get a little exercise too. Also, I wonder if doing your own unload might get you mt and back on the road faster than waiting on lumpers?

I work for WEL and am a recent graduate. I think the company is pretty decent. The trucks are nice, the freight keeps me moving, and overall i am pleased I went here. In regards to unloading, you can and they will pay .04/case or .20/100lbs. Some locations have strict unloading requirements in regards to safety shoes, etc but you can unload and is probably quicker than some of the lumpers. Sysco is a nightmare to deal with their lumpers.

In regards to miles, I ran 6 days, and got 2300 in. The following week I had more local multistop runs and they pay about the same. I am home for this weekend, but come monday i have a pick up in New Jersey delivering to Wisconsin. About 100 miles empty and 1038 loaded. I will have it done in about 17 hrs of driving.

Thanks JWB. So have you actually unloaded yourself? I'm curious how it works. Does the receiver provide pallet-jacks etc?

I am still really green, but I have not actually unloaded myself. I am slowly getting closer to that day though. From talking with the other drivers, they said some give you a pallet jack and you can pull it out yourself, but some pull it out for you. Different receivers have specs on how they want the pallets re stacked according to their requirements. To give a for instance, some companies have unloading policies and agreements with recievers while some don't and you can unload them. In about an hour I am going to the Wal-mart DC in Tomah, WI. I have 17 pallets of soy and almond milk. Generally unless you are under a manifest load (multistop) you may not need to hire a lumper and they will do it themselves. It was like that at Sams club DC in Minneapolis. But whether you hire or not you request a po and/or comcheck auth and the company takes it out of your check until they recieve the reciept. They have been true to their word on getting reimbursed. The receipt for the lumper or your self lumper receipt does the job.

Feel free to ask any questions. It is hit or miss on my wifi connection, but I will try and reply as quick as I can.

Roger that. Yeah, I guess I'll just have to go for it some time and try to do an unload and see what happens. Guess I'll need some better shoes though, right now I only have tennis shoes on the truck.

I'm green too. I wonder if we were in the same orientation class? I just went through a couple of weeks ago, I was assigned my truck on 7-26. You?

I have a question for the wel drivers. Do any of you do the lease purchase program that they are offering? Do you make money at it and what kind of escrow accounts are involved with the lease purchase program. I know that company drivers get .38 cpm but if you do the lease program the linehaul pay is different. Also with the weekly lease amount that you pay, at the end of the 74 to 104 weeks depending on equipment leased do you have a balloon payment or is it paid for at the end of the lease?

Just have some questions that I can't find answers to on the forum. Thank you for any help it is greatly appreciated.
