What do I have to do to run out of state? From my research so far, It looks like we pay $300 for our own authority and that's it...?.. We have a D.O.T. # and I'm going to ask my boss if he's paid the heavy highway use tax. I will only be going to Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. I haven't found any special state regulations so far.

I am a local day cab driver. I just hired on to a company that is very inexperienced running a trucking company. They had an owner operator help them with all their paperwork and setting up the company. They say they are only registered to run in Michigan. I would like to bid on some runs going to bordering states. (day cab).

Is there anything else I need except our own authority?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Joe

Thanks. I read through that. I just went out and looked at the truck. We have:
    USDOT #
    MC#
    MPSC#

The MC# means we have our own authority, right? Are we already licensed to run interstate?
I googled the mpsc# and it said that was the intrastate registation for Michigan.
So, that's all we need, right?

I'm starting to think the o/o that set it up was lying to my boss about only being able to run in michigan. He drove part time for them and didn't like to run out of state.

Look at your cab card. It will list all the states you are apportioned for. Also you should have an up to date IFTA certificate and decals on your truck. That MPSC# will be for intrastate within michigan.

I forget the web site you can go to check on a MC#. But its through the feds site I believe. It will tell you what authority type you have and commoditys that they are registered to haul.
