My gps is sending me on US 220on from Roanoke to Covington. The atlas has this as a non truck route. I'm going to rin the interstaes around but was wondering if anybodys driven that route before and it's legallity.

It's not a designated route but it's not restricted. Trucks run it, but half is in the hills climbing and descending and many 45 mph curves. Most of it is 4 lane with no shoulders. I wouldn't run it heavy. Maybe empty.

You can make almost as good time staying on the interstate. What about 35 miles further?

This road is used by trucks all thetime. There is a paper mill at Covington, VA and trucks servicingthe paper mill (wood chips, logs, etc.) constantly use the road.
