I ran my truck over a rock sticking out of the ground in an area not well seen by drivers in the drop area to back up my load. The office there said I was about the 5th person to do this. I got out "cheap" with a broken radiator. Others have had oil pan issues. Am I responsible for the cost of the repairs, or the drop place? Seems wrong they know there's a problem and won't fix it.

Safety is going to tell you that you are responsible for the 360 degree area of the truck.. everything is the driver's fault
Red Hot Mess Thanks this. -
Definitely your responsibility.
Depending on the company you work for, they may not charge it bqck to you but more then likely will hit you with a preventable accident on your file and DAC -
I have to ask, if this rock is big enough to damage oil pans and radiators how is it not that well seen?
Red Hot Mess and losttrucker Thank this. -
That is what I am curious about as well

Stealth Rock !

Some of the other vehicles in the parking lot may have obstructed the view....sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

Hope you find a little humor in that rookie11. In a perfect world, yeah those d-bags in the office who are aware of the problem should at the very least go out with some fluorescent orange spray paint to make it more visible, but it's not a perfect world. Like CenturyClass said, we are responsible for everything around, over and under our trucks all the time. Sometimes a good idea to G.O.A.L. before you back in to a space. Hopefully the repercussions won't be bad & you'll be able to mark it down as a lesson learned & move on. Don't let it get you down, we all make mistakes, its part of learning. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

That is funny! Thanks for the laugh. It's been a long week, and it is fixed and moving on. I always know that every opportunity is a learning one, and God taking the time to teach me patience!
