I think you did the right thing, that's a solid rate out of MO to PA and it got you 15 miles from where you needed to be.
What would have been worse would be to push for an extra $50 and he says no, then you're in a weak spot where you have to cave in or miss the load. I'm a firm believer in meaning what you say and saying what you mean. If I tell a broker I need an extra $150 that means we don't have a deal unless I get it.
Is it negotiation, or being greedy?

I had that happen today. Dock manager unloaded me, and said he needed to move a load 220 miles into NJ, near Trenton, must deliver by deadline, two stops, could not drop early (same day). I called the freight desk to ask about it. They offered me 600. Since freight is cheap coming out of NJ, tolls are expensive going in, and I could not get the load off my truck the same day, I countered with 800. They wouldn't go over 750, so I bounced. The dock manager was not happy. He called the freight desk and ripped them a new one, but they still wouldn't budge on the rate.
Funny thing is, the agent let it slip that my $800 offer was better than the other offers they'd had earlier in the day. I wonder if they got it covered?dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
does Crst pay you even if he does not pay themthey are gonna take 25 percent of that 1.94 arent they so you are in the ball park of roughly 1.70 correct. If you are happy that is all that matters because you are new at this and you can not pay for your tractor with the money some one else makes you can only pay for it with what you make. Do you see where I am going with this. Lots of opinions on here good and not so good do what is best for you.CRST is gonna want thier money every week it is up to you to produce it. Good luck

I want to point out a few things here that I don't think you figured into the equation.
Now I'm just guessing and threw some numbers together. Now I'm assuming you are going off the miles on the loadboard? If so big mistake! Google maps is your friend, remember that. The 983 miles is off, according to google its 1067 and they are usually pretty close. we'll say 25% surrcharge CRST takes out for you.
Now...
983 x 1.94 = 1907.02 x 25%= 476.76 - 1907.02 - 476.76 = 1403.26 x 80% =1144.21 + 476.76 = 1602.97.
1144.21 divided by 983 = 1.16 cents per mile. surcharge comes out to .49 cents a mile for grand total of....... 1.65 a mile.
Ok now at 1067 miles....
1144.21 divided by 1067 = 1.07 a mile with a surcharge of .45 a mile comes out to........ 1.52 a mile.
Now that's .13 cents a mile difference. Bet you also forgot to figure in the PA turnpike, which isn't cheap. Plus now you have to figure in the cheap rates or long deadhead out of the Camp Hill area.
Learn from this. Take your time and do the math, figure in everything. In the end you probably won't even break even on this load. In all actuality this load should've paid 2.94 a mile and thats only cause you live over that way. Me, I wouldn't have taken it for less than 3.50, but I have a longer deadhead home than you.
here's another thing people don't think of...
If a load pays cheap but you can deadhead somewhere else and get a better paying load with less loaded miles, your much better of. This is hard to explain but over time you will get what I mean.jardel Thanks this. -
Since he is leased and CRST authorized the load, they MUST pay him, within 15 days by law, whether they collect or not.

yeah, but les2. you got a snowball chance in hades of getting 3.50 a mile back to pa from that part of mo. a better goal to have shot for was 1.85 to 2.00 after the 25 per cent was taken.

And that is why you don't go there! I know guys who get better money to ohio and deadhead home to PA/WV than taking a load right by their house. The reason I'd want more per mile is the fact that rates are cheap out of PA, so to cover my deadhead home I'd want a higher rate. Plus the expense of the turnpike.
Pretty sure when your broker a load thru CRST and most Co. they pay you 80% instead of 75. When in reality they should pay you 95% since you did all the work.
Hope you understand that.
