You're not alone STexan, I just saw this thread, and apparently dazedandconfuzed understands your point. (Kudos dude, it's hard to swallow).

First I disagree with many of the other posters, however, since your DD214 is the only proof you're a Veteran for preferential consideration, it's to your benefit to provide a copy of it.

Second, as far as withholding information, that's a no-no. You may slide temporarily, but that can follow you and screw you in the future, even incarcerate you. Don't do it.

Third, you may want to pursue action through the VA, since if this company has any dealing with governement contracts in any way, shape, or manner, they could lose them if it's determined that they discriminated against you. Now, if they have legitimate reason, you still may have a problem, but at least you can find out what exactly that is and deal with it....with the VA explaining your recourse.

Fourth, if they have no vested contracts with government, and don't want to hire you, there really is no reason to compel them. You could just move on to another company. If you start seeing a pattern for the same reason, then you may need to pusue a different line of work.

Only other option is to get a VA and Small Business loan and start your own business. I don't recommend it without experience, but provided you don't have problems getting insured (because of the same reasons), you may be able to lease on with someone, or run your own business. Either way, keep us posted, keep your head up and keep on truckin'.

Try somewhere else would be your best bet. My co-driver has the same situation and has never had problems finding a job driving because of it. Werner did you a favor by not wasting more of your time with them.

Im rated at 80 percent and I have been employed since 3 weeks after leaving the military. Is there something you are leaving out?

And STtexan, do you even know what PTSD is? It doesnt mean you are crazy or anything. Good grief.

Alot of vets who have never seen combat claim it, but unless you have actually been out there in combat daily then you have no idea what its like.

Maybe you fellow vets can explain something, I don't claim anything. I worked as an ABH (Flight Deck Director) in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. Yeah, worked long hours in a dangerious area. But overall nothing major.

There are two guys I served with severly working the system, how does the VA not catch these blatently false claims?

One guy worked in an office, and pushed paper his 4 year enlistment. Is getting disability because he is claiming PTSD. Another guy, is about to start getting $2,000/mo plus full bennies for the rest of his life because he was part of "OIF" and there is some group who helps people get claim money. Remember, we were all in the Navy. We didn't do any combat or anything like that, just regular general labor to be honest.

How does the government, so good on screwing people out of their hard earned pennies. Let this kind of crap fly? These are two cases I personally know, not heresay! There are so many more that I heard of, because people can't shut up sometimes.

There is a girl Ive heard of who has never left the CONUS and is getting 100% rating for PTSD.. Really?

My assistant team leader was wounded in an ambush and only gets 40% disability and he almost lost his left arm.

 

Those claims happen all the time and it pisses me off to no extent. Last time I had to see a shrink at the VA for my PTSD, they asked me what angers me and sets off my PTSD. Simple answer, people who claim all of the things that I do yet never were in combat. Those that never left a major base during a deployment much less never left the states.

A few words of advice also when they ask you if you had suicidal thoughts, don't reply with why would I kill myself when I can just kill everybody who makes me mad. The shrinks tend to think you're a little crazy when you respond with that

As for a possible employer asking about your medical history while in the military or disability and compensation through the va you do not have to answer them. As for disability and compensation nobody has to know about that except for yourself. Your military medical records are classified information and you do not have to give it to an employer

 

Also like everybody else is saying you saved yourself a lot of time by them not hiring you. There are much better places to work out there that will hire a new student driver
