Like with most things, once many of these companies get the EOBR figured out, and the drivers learn how to use them to their advantage, it will get smoother. It will be a rough road for many. It takes a conscious effort by everyone at the carrier to get with the program. It was a pretty smooth transition when my carrier went to EOBR a couple of years ago. I figured I would get it put in my truck, and if it messed things up, then I could always pull my truck and go elsewhere. I can live with it. My carrier was committed to getting the kinks worked out in day to day operations, so that helped make it go easy.
Just like putting synthetic oil in an old engine, and then discovering the leaks, switching to EOBR will show a company and its drivers how poor of a job of load planning they have been doing. It will expose the weaknesses in a company's operation. Likewise, it will expose how much time is being wasted by a driver throughout the day stopping at every truckstop they come to and playing tidily winks with Mary Jo Rottencrotch.

I'd like to know how people are taking a 15-20% pay cut?
Initially, the company I had worked for said it sucked because they would suddenly be out of hours, loads weren't moving like they should, then once they settled down on things, drivers had their miles back or even more.
Dispatch found out how poorly they were doing putting people on loads and people without the hours on the wrong loads and people with hours left sitting.
Once they could start seeing those patterns, people with the hours got the loads.
If they had to get trucks to meet up and then swap trailers to get a load to a destination for a hot load, they could see that as well if needed.
Productivity on the part of both dispatch and driver ended up going up for both. -
Ok, all well and good for fleets. Explain how an eobr will help me as a single driver doing my own dispatch and load planning? Will it send me an e-mail to let me know where I am and how many hours I have left?
Point is why mandate it and call it a good thing for productivity? Call it what it is, a leash and watchdog for a society that is becoming more orwellian every year. Next will be cameras in your truck, then on your streets, then in your homes.

as a one-horse show, it won't. I don't like the idea of putting an EOBR in my truck either. It does me nothing other than provide protection from bad speeding tickets. And THAT I have already experienced as a company driver.

flatbed companies don't work 24/7/365 like reefer companies do.
they work bankers hours. and i've had a few pickups that shut down anywhere from noon to 2 p.m.
so, yeah. when ti comes to eobr. it's gonna hurt flatbeders big time. becuase our shipper and receiver hours are daytime and during the week. -
Hate to say this but my truck (Peoplenet) DOES, in fact, require that I sign into the truck (personal code name and password). This DOES meet some kind of requirement and DOES exist. Biometric?... fingerprint or iris scan or DNA sampling?... not yet. Maybe I'll provide a stool sample.

Had that happen on my company truck. Another driver grabbed it with me still signed in and took it for a round totaling 300 miles while I was home for my 34. -
Ahhh, another Pennsylvanian with a grasp on Conspiracy Theories. The Government has been slowly 'chipping away' at our rights for a long time. So long that it is almost acceptable to some that they tell us what we can and cannot eat, do, spend our money on and tell us how our healthcare is going to be paid. Obamacare is the first step towards that socialist end where government controls our lives "for the sake of your health and well-being". Bull Crap.
