Has anyone used a timer/ relay to the clutch pedal switch? Im almost positive that would take care of it

My second truck was an '08 ProStar. It had an APU that worked for about 3 weeks then died.

I idled when I needed to.

Then one day in a company yard a guy comes up and says I need to plug this laptop in for a minute. He turned off the idle.

What a crappy company that was!

with the cruise switch turned on. you might be able to adjust the idle by tapping the set/resume switch. one way brings the idle down. the other takes it up.

my old t600 would go up to 1100. my w9 i have now only goes to 875 for some reason. and the ecm has been stripped of all company settings.

Interesting idea, if the wire is unplugged they should not fire you unless they see you doing it.

Wow im really surprised how many people on this thread that I have read that knows absolutly nothing about what opti-idle is. It is simply a software program that cuts out idle time to a specified time period set by the company. My last company I worked for Purdy Brothers Trucking
had it on their trucks( 06 Frieghtliner Columbias). Trust me when I tell you there is no way of by-passing it, yes it sucks the only way to extend the idle time is to tape up the thermostat control panel in the bunk keeping the thermostat from rising to quickly once your in the lowest setting(4 degree selector switch) its going to shut down no matter what you do this just extends the idle time by mins not hours...................

Thats why i t should work because it should trigger clutch pedal multiple times. Obviously we all know whats the reason for opt idle do you? Now if you tap the clutch, it extends the set idle time until it dies out, at what ever set. So with that in mind, if you take a timer or relay you can have that trigger the clutch switch multiple times not letting it get a solid count down. ...Relays/timers. It shouldnt be that hard; if it works when you manually do it. Now the only prob i can think of is the jake brake if you leave it wired in. Now my intended use for this idea, is for downtime when its hot. Now im a do-it-urselfr....dont quote me on this. I think that should make life easier when down. Consult an so it remains original electrical tech he should know what to safely use so you dont brun the rigg. The key goal is not to cut any wires what so ever so ever

The reason for this is so you wont have to set the opt idle, because as most of us know sometimes that monkey does not want to turn on, i should say stay on! So think what ever you want. Every man is entitled to his or her opinion. You dont like it change the channel bud

it doesnt matter if you set the opti or not the engine will shut off period make all the assumptions, guesses, wishes, dreams, hopes, prayers, denials, options,or matter of facts you want but it aint going to change the fact u can not bypass the opti-idle without the companies knowledge. And this includes you mr super trucker i have 1 yr exp shakyted..................

@ dizzylizzy doesnt it burn you when some one younger than you is making the same amount of money when youve been slavin away for a particular company or as an o/o... I officially have my first hater here lol. Ok if your so positive why is it that in this freightliner just as the engine light comes on, why when i hit the clutch pedal to trigger the switch it resets. Now i can keep hitting that switch all day if i want an the truck wont turn off aslong as i hit it before the truck turns off, so my idea was to use a timer/relay to replace my foot from tapping that swith while i was parked for over night on a hot day or cold one. When i get a chance ill post a video so some of the super truckers can better explain

Yea you do that when your at it take a picture of your trucks service manual and show me it says Opti-Idle. I guarantee IT DOES NOT SAY THAT. You have no clue what opti-idle is . And as for making the same amount of money unless you make 42 cpm , $6 a drop[ and work only Monday thru Thursday you know absolutly nothing about me, but once again on this site 1 yr of driving makes one a Super Trucker aint that right shakyted.............
