Canadian Wife&Husband Wannabe Team

    Hello All,

    First of all, thanks to all the regulars for all the amazing info in this forum. Sure makes a big decision a lot more informed and prepared.

    Ok, so as the subject says, we are a husband and wife wannabe team in our early thirties with 5 years of marriage. We currently are unhappily employed in the corporate world. We are very experienced in many different levels. I was a licensed mechanic, she was a farm hand. We decided to re-invent ourselves 2 years ago and work in the corporate world together. As it turns out, we work closely together for 50 hours a week and enjoy that part, the good with the bad. That being said, we want to continue working closely together but not in the corporate world.

    We have always talked about going into trucking and now is the best time for us to make the change.

    So, the point of the thread is that we have a couple questions, preferably from Canadian team drivers as it would apply to us best.

    1) We don't want to be separated at anytime during this change. Is there any Canadian companies that would allow us to stick together through the initial training?

    2) Any companies in Canada that historically pay for the training? We'd be even willing on signing a contract with a guaranteed time we would commit to the company as a return.

    3) We have no kids (will not happen in the future), no bills, not financially motivated. Our work ethic motivates us. We have no strings to tie us down. Can we choose to be preferably away for a minimum one month at a time?

    Sorry for the long winded first post, but we are very committed on following through with this.

    No Canadian company pays for training. It's pretty much slavery. Schneider will help you pay your schooling back. Once you two get your license you will be golden. I always see tons of ads looking for husband and wife teas. What part of Canada are you from? Being in a truck together is gonna be a lot different then in an office. If neither of you is a sound sleeper or can't sleep in a moving vehicle you won't last long.

    We are both sound sleepers! She sleeps in a rolling combine in a rutty field. I sleep through everything. We got that covered.

    We are in the East side of Toronto.

    How about?:

    I guess we have to take a big gamble and quit our jobs and take the plunge.

    If you want to enjoy life together then you'd better not sign up as a team. The purpose of teams is making as many miles as possible in as less time possible. Meaning you will meet in the hallway, one going to bed, the other going to work.

    It might be more fun both getting your training but drive like a single driver. You will never be out of hours, can do something extra if necessary. Of course that way you don't make the money a team does...

    Try if the goverment will pay the training. Here in Manitoba for example if everything fails Manitoba Public Insurance has a programm where they pay the training in the driving school. After that you have to drive for 2 years for a company participating in this programm. But that is Manitoba. But try Bison. You will be seperated for her training and can drive team afterwards. Workedfor Bison, alot of things are bad but the money always matched my work.

    Well there is no place that will provide training, and allow you to stay together, that would make 3 people in a truck for the training period, which wont work. Secondly team is run 24/7 365 if they have the work. You are further ahead to do what is referred to as super single where you both share the driving but not run 24 hrs. You will need your CDL before you will get on for training with most companies. Bison does have training and they will allow you to run super single from what I know of them. I was born in Canada a farm girl but have moved south and now live in North Dakota. I run single as does my hubby Jim but we sometimes run together in one truck as super single. Personally I do not care for team never have. At times trips out of the Toronto area are hard to come by for reefer and dry van. Flatdeck will give better results. It also pays more as you normally get paid for tarping and untarping the loads.
