Thats why you don't put your face in front of it. I won't say never, but it would difficult for me to get hit with my load bar because I position myself outside the bars arc.

 

When you drove yourself and you completed your 5 weeks did you get to collect your vehicle and drive it back home? or do you drive back home after the two weeks and the trainer picks you up? If a load is like impossible for the driver to tarp by self do the forklift guys help you? I want to do longhaul should i get percentage or mileage? if longhaul guys do percentage and a load goes from new york to new mexico does that mean it's gonna be a good paycheck percent wise because of the type of load and the distance it takes? you have to have a TWIC right? How long does TMC give you to have passport and hazmat? some companies I've seen say 120 days to get them, I think i could handle hazmat easy, did it in the military lol

 

Hey blind dog how's it goin?? how's tmc? any accidents or close calls? haha been ahwile since I was barking up this blog with questions...anyway I quit my job and am in school, Tennessee Truck Driving School..three week training very good at what they do and I've already gone through the first week, first week was hell week because of classroom time with books..my god 6 am to 6 pm LOL what a day..friday i tested at the DMV and passed combinations and air brakes, missed one on each, EXCEPT general knowledge, failed it and missed 11 allowed to miss 10 miss more and it cuts off automatically, which is the hardest and longest..lots of tricky questions but I still get to proceed through the course, second week we'll learn the trucks and get to drive, because I don't have my A permit I wont get to do the freeway drive..only in the yard -_- anyway I've began filing out applications (maverick, TMC, Boyd bros., Rhoel, BTC, werner and us xpress) werner flatbed and western express flatbed have been on my mind since btc, boyd bros., maverick(who i do like too with tmc) don't hire out in the west coast and melton who is tx based is just tx based, I'll stick with maverick and tmc if i get with one of them TMC I'm starting with first..if I get well within them I'll stay I've looked at a few companies...even Kaiser and Central..I know Kaiser expects XP. but I'm sure TMC is just another company with rules.. later BD!!

 

If a load goes from ny to nm then it pays good percent or per mile it evens out but your a fool if u take per mile

I just earned my CDL FINALLY!!!!! I faxed my application over to TMC, got a call and was told to fax them my DD214, faxed that and got a confirmed call that they picked it up and I think the first call was from one guy and the second was from guss, guss sounds cool the first guy i think was just a "yep/nope recruiter vocabulary" type of guy I hate it when people can't say yea or yes, in a postive, proper and polite manner, not yep or nope cause it doesn't sound structured or professional or respectful to the least. TMC has a veterans program where vets can use their GI bill for OJT..rather than, i'm assuming, going through 2 weeks of orientation and being sent home and 5 weeks of driving with a trainer..so...I'm thinking of looking into this, does anyone have an idea of what this service TMC provides is like? I'm assuming their OJT sounds longer than 2 weeks of weeding out and 5 weeks of driving lol I hope it's not like 4 years or anything LOL OJT can't be no more than 6 months imo I mean it can't be that complex to know a job like trucking..share some info please

Yes percentage is the way to go. Their average length of haul is about 500miles. Those long loads are few and far between.

 

Let me see if I can help you out. Using your GI Bill benefits does not exclude you from the 2 week orientation or the 5 weeks out with a trainer. Inexperienced drivers will do those two things regardless of status.
The Post 9/11 GI Bill and Montgomery GI Bill Apprenticeship program is not an OJT program, at least in the sense that you're used to from the military. It is an apprenticeship program like the traditional trades where you are expected to meet certain goals in a certain time frame. In most trades, you'd be required to attain a level of competence at a certain time point. In trucking that doesn't really apply, as the required level of competence will likely come long before your apprenticeship is considered completed.
TMC's VA approved apprenticeship program is 18 months. This doesn't mean a thing with regard to how TMC pays, treats, or assigns you, but rather how the VA pays your benefit to you.
If you have earned the maximum benefit (in other words, having served at least 3 years on active duty), you will be paid $1104.75 a month for the first six months of training, $810.15 for the second six months of training and $515.55 for remaining training. Additionally, you may qualify for BAH paid at the E-5 rate for Des Moines, IA which is currently $1230 per month, with corresponding drops in rate at the 6 and 12 month mark.
To be clear, the apprenticeship program doesn't change your day to day working life as a truck driver at all. It's just that you have earned a big fat tax-free check for the first 18 months while you learn a new trade, in addition to earning your regular paycheck from TMC.
