Resources for someone that knows NOTHING about anything to do with brokerage-ing-ness

    I thought there may be a sticky at the top of this section that provided links/FAQs in regards to this broker stuff. I really don't understand any of it at all, and was hoping there may be some sort of a simple guide to teach the very basics? I'd google it, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to google. I only know that I know nothing right now but would like to learn haha. So could anyone provide a link to some resources that might give me a basic understanding of this?

    There's more to it than a web based class, but for a place to start check out OOIDA's webinar on negotiating with brokers. (Down toward the bottom of this link: https://www.ooida.com/OOIDA Foundation/Webinar/enroll-current.shtml

    Also start asking specific questions here. A lot of folks with a wealth of experience and knowledge in this forum.

    If you're new and thinking you can survive on load boards only, you're in for a hell of a battle. Work on getting direct freight and cutting out the parasites. Not all brokers are bottom feeding blood suckers, either. The good ones play an important role in the success of a carrier.

    I've been driving for about 1.5 years and now have a little bit of experience in expedite and line haul. I'm a fast learner, and I've no doubt I'll succeed, but I'm no fool. I wont' dive right in without reading, asking, and learning first. I need to be confident about what I'm doing, I need to cover worst case scenarios before I buy my own truck and more important than anything, I need to know what my first step is before buying my first truck. BUT, before any of that, I first need to save some money. :p (working on that :p)

    You aren't going to learn jack about dealing with brokers, loadboards, or negotiations polishing the seat of a company truck with your fanny, all you learn is how to be a better company driver. OOIDA has 2 good webinars up, how to use loadboards, and negotiationg with brokers and shippers. Watch both of those and you will be enlightened.

    Yeah but he will learn things about all freight in general that a person just won't ever learn from a webinar or forum. If he's got a head on his shoulders and uses common sense that knowledge from years in a company seat will be invaluable. Not to mention the ease with which he can eliminate debt and pile up savings in someone else's truck.

    My first run has an O/O was 98cpm, going 508 miles from a
    DC to a store in NC... last time I do that, but enjoyed the $300 detention.
