Okay, I have completed 3 weeks apprenticeship training with one trainer and about to start the 2nd 3 week session. It has been interesting 20% driving, 80% paperwork. Been to PA, IN, KY, OH, and MI, Enjoyed the scenery in PA the most. Heading for Chicago tomorrow.
Because this is an Ontario apprenticeship program, there is $2,000 grant upon completion
Time for AZ training closer

Read your post on another site regarding KRISKA , please do not become a Oso2
that guy is unbelievably the LAZIEST driver I ever read about , and likely they were not
about his posting negative things about them.

Well it has been 4 weeks on the road by myself and have been to IL, MI, PA, NY, my last week was 2300 miles. You can get the hours if your willing to work. New equipment and if it doesn't work just tell someone and it will be fixed. You have to be proactive to stay up with the changes and maintenance issues or your setting yourself up to fail.
I have had my frustrations like any driver, new or seasoned, but I have gotten through them and have liked my time on the road. 5 or 6 days, do your reset and do it all over again.
For anyone else who is thinking about doing this line of work, get the okay from your other. Two other trainees went through the 6 weeks training on the road only to walk away after, because the wife/girlfriend didn't like being by themselves.
If any other newbies have questions or just want to bounce an idea off me, feel free to ask.
Life changes being on the road, you don't have the time to do what you did before you started.Speedloader Thanks this. -
Tks for the update. Glad things are working out. I was going to sugest a blog, but I guess in a way you have one going now. Advice - keep a daily journal. Just bullet points to refresh your memory. Then maybe write a book. IE - "Big Rig" by Don McTavish. If you haven't read this, find it and keep it in your bunk.

What I learned this week is don't take the word from anyone else for cross border clearance. It cost me 3 hours downtime at the border and I new better.
Now 2750 miles this week was all driving. Start on weekends and get the miles or Monday morning and get lesser. Each driver and their situation is different. I want the miles so I choose to start on Saturday.
GO TIGERS! -
That's one thing you'll learn quickly, most longer trips are dispatched to leave on a Thursday-Saturday for delivery early the next week.
So if you're looking to go 'long' you have to be willing to work weekends and plan your time off accordingly.
Those who figure that out usually make more...and don't have to work quite as hard as those doing the short overnight trips do to make it. -
best advice, Don't move around from carrier to carrier, allota big talkers out there be tell'n ya how green their grass is compared to yours, put up with the Kriska bs much as possible. Its the same different shovel, for most otr drivers.
FLATBED Thanks this. -
I'm on the road returning from a trip and get a call from a local company I had talked with before I got out of school, asking me to come in, they have openings. Ironic; they called the day I started orientation at Kriska. They understood and we agreed to stay in touch. Well at the end of this week it will be the end of one and starting at another. Right or wrong, two minutes around the corner versus an hour and 15 minutes. No other reason than that. Kriska has not done me wrong and they are hiring new drivers of anyone is looking for a job driving Pro Stars give Kriska a call.

Greetings,
I am also looking at 2nd career to pay for my training as an AZ trucker. I have been researching the 2 schools in Niagara on the lake TTCC and OTDS, I also read your post KenD. This definitely got my attention and I was hoping other might be able to give me feed back on these schools good or bad. I want to make sure I am picking the correct school to have the most doors open when I am licensed and ready to look for work. I will also be researching Modern as my third choice now. I look forward to some replys.
