    Just thought I'd throw this out there, to maybe save someone from wasting their time:

    If you take a prescription medication, and plan on disclosing it on your DOT physical, make sure your prospective company will sign off on it.

    A formal letter from your Doctor may not be enough.

    (And you may find yourself excused from orientation on day 3, and back at square 1). :biggrin_2556:

    From what I was told, it depends on the company's doctor. I had been on Depakote for almost a year. My prospective company told me that if I had a letter from my Dr. clearing me to drive, there was no problem.

    My Dr. complied (and also included a letter of recommendation), but THEIR Dr. refused to sign off. I wasted quite a bit of time and effort, to be sent home during my 3rd day of orientation.

    Ultimately, I found a better driving job. But I thought I'd put this out there, to possibly save someone all of the hassle that I endured!

    It's not so much the company, but the insurance company they use. There are no DOT regulations for prescribed drugs.

    That sucks. Stupid insurance companies! I take a a medication that says it has a side effect of drowsiness, but I take it before bed, and I am not affected during the day. Hopefully whenever i can finally get a job behind the wheel, it will not be a hassle!

    A DOT physical today for a new company.

    All went well, and I was given a medical card good for 1 year. I asked about this and I was told that it's because of the need for medication to control my blood pressure.

    Any of you out there that this applies to...get ready for it.

    I guess the thing that gets me about this entire deal(and why I need medication to lower my blood pressure) is the fact that my blood pressure has been the same...although slightly elevated according to the Doctor last year...since the Doctors have been keeping a record of it. In my case 35 years ago when I went in the Navy.

    It's not that my blood pressure has gone up in 35 years, the government in its infinite wisdom lowered the required numbers. Probably at the behest of the pharmaceutical companies in order to sell more prescription medications.
