Schneider's pretty good for a new driver. I think if you stay a year, they'll reimburse you for the cost of your schooling. They've got nice facilities at operating centers, buy you new work boots every year and never stop training you. Plus, I think you'll be on your own sooner with them. ( two weeks at discretion of trainer) Alot of people start with Swift, I think they're the largest now. Lotsa new equipment. TMC and Maverick are flatbed companies. Both pretty good. Werner and CRST are gonna run you ragged for not alot of money. I think you spend about 10 weeks with the trainer at Werner. Frozen Food Express (FFE) is what it's name says, delivering to a lot of grocery warehouses.( alot of grocery frozen/refrig. deliveries are now in the middle of the night). Alot depends on where you live and what you what to do. Good Luck.
Between these companies which on is recomended? SWIFT or FFE,CR ENGLAND

Rich,
What you have to realize is THAT YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A FAMILY. lol...
Ok had to say that. I'm going to go out on a LIMB here and say 80% of the people working at the companies you listed have families.
If they can manage to drive a truck and take care of them. YOU CAN TOO.
I have a six year old son at home too. Along with being married for the last 10 years. I also have grown accustom to making 120,000 + each year here in washington state. BUT THOSE DAYS ARE GONE NOW IN THIS ECONOMY.
I DON'T SEE THEM COMING BACK ANYTIME SOON.
So, what are we left with? A JOB YOU CAN GET HIRED ONTO.... LOL...
You don't need to make 2000 a month because YOU AREN'T MAKING ANY MONEY NOW.. MOST LIKELY.. YOUR UNEMPLOYED RIGHT? WON'T LAST FOREVER.
I was on unemployment for 3 years. I thought it was never going to end, after extension and extension and extension THINKING TO MYSELF MY OLD JOB WILL COME BACK, MY OLD JOB WILL COME BACK... OVER AND OVER... AGAIN...
Never did...
Times have changed. Get over and move on...
Out of all the schools you listed I think only swift gives you the money to start trucking... if you don't have any...
Thanks,
-CryptoSam Hell Thanks this. -
I live north of Denver. Thinking about Sage (Henderson) and then getting in at either Knight or Swift, who both recruit from Sage.
How has Knight been? Home time, waiting to get unloaded, etc...?
They seem to be NOOB friendly, and just opened a new terminal in Aurora. -
There is no BEST!

I'll throw in my experience as a new driver. After much research, I chose May Trucking Co., and so far, I'm very happy with that choice. I paid for my own school (well, my girlfriend co-signed the loan for me), and that allowed me to make a thoughtful choice, not be forced to stick with something that wasn't working. May has tuition reimbursement that starts 90 days after you solo out, their starting pay is pretty good, they have newer, well-maintained equipment, get me home when I ask, and never even tried to get me to lease (they won't even consider it until you have 6 mos. with them). My cousin trained through CRE, and they made him lease or said it would take a while to get a truck and he'd not get many miles. Shady.
Overall, I'd recommend May to get your foot in the door. Are they perfect? No company is. But I feel I could have done a whole lot worse...Last edited: Aug 13, 2012

Take a look at Roehl there training is pretty good. So far i like it here no issues yet and they are nice people. Good hometime

I didn't get my CDL with them, but I started with them.
After over 1.5 years, Swift is still good for me.
Stay on-time and safe, and you will get the loads and miles.
I got a Qcom message a few days ago for drivers to be patient because freight was slow everywhere.
Yet, I have been pre-planned 1-2 loads in advance of my delivery for the past several weeks.Sam Hell Thanks this. -
Shoot, maybe I need to stop driving, and go be a dispatcher for Knight. I would love to have a bunch of guys moving freight all over the country, earning them a good living, and getting to visit with them at the terminal. Smile. Linda

Swift has a real long contract. Crst's contract is less. Check out how long you will be leasing your body for, before you go with any of them.

Knight and Swift are getting closer to being the same...The man that owns Knight, married the daughter of the man that owns Swift, honest!
