That's a right sharp looking rig Hurst. And you're right, it appears to be FAR from a rolling death trap. That is a truck to be proud of for sure. I am serious on this.
Are those super singles on the drives? How are they in the snow, and how hard is it to chain them in winter?

Thumbs up for setting the record straight, and keep her between the ditches man.

The supers have a some what squishy ride when fully loaded. I think its due to the lack of additional side walls that you have with duals. But the ride is great. This truck has a smooth comfortable ride. Best truck I have ever been in.

I've only had to chain up 3 times in this truck. Twice on Donner and once on the Cabbage. They are no more difficult than with duals. None of our trailers have singles, so I can compare chaining up the trailer wheels to chaining up duals on a tractor. The time and experience was the same. The first time it took me about an hour. By the 3rd time I had it down to 30 mins for a full chain up.

As for snow and ice,.. I think much has to do with the truck and how its set up. If you have locking rears and are as heavy as this truck is then I dont think you will have much trouble with singles or duals. I was at a consignee in Ohio and the whole place was a sheet of ice. I had to lock the rears in to get it backed up to the dock. They were on a slight incline. As for driving down the road in snow and ice, I have not had any problems. If you drive like you have some sense when the conditions dictate it, you will arrive alive and in one piece.

Hurst, i'm from Central NY state, near Lake Ontario, so trust me, i have a great respect for mother nature when she starts throwing the white stuff at me. (knocks on wood till knuckles are bloody) i've never had any accidents in the winter time.... in my personal vehicle.

I just passed my CDL A road test today. I'll start with my company at the end of this month. They too said they'll send me over Donner, and Cabbage, so I'll just do what i was trained to do at NTTS, and take it slow and smooth.

I have some video of me coming down Donner heading to Sacramento. Its kind of funny. I'm in 4 low (18 speed) riding the jake at about 15 mph. I'm in the right lane,.. well where the right lane would be if you could see the lines. Other truckers are on the CB whining because I wont speed up. Yet not a single one of them would pass me on the left. You can see them all behind me lined up. F' em is all I can say. I never let anyone influence how I drive. All of us made it down safely and in one piece. I wasnt about to take a chance putting my truck into a slide. I found a groove where I was in complete control of my truck and I kept it there.

I had one bad experience in Wy coming over Elk Mountain. I was coming down one of the long hills. Maybe a 3% grade. I had a truck about 500ft in front of me and a Swift truck passed me and came back to the right lane maybe 75ft in front of me. I didnt really have a problem with that initially. But he was slowing down and I was fully loaded. I turned the jake on and suddenly the RPM's went crazy,.. the drives were sliding. Well now I am about 50ft to his trailer. I get on the brakes. I look in my mirror and my trailer is starting to go to the right. Now my trailer is in a slide and braking wont correct it. Fortunately there was no one to the left of us,. I had an out. I got back on the gas and rode it out in the left lane, straightening out my trailer in the process. That swift driver had no idea how close we had just come to being really screwed up. I dont blame him. The roads were pretty good up until that point. One of those WTF moments where things could have gotten really ugly. I had an Angel watching over me that day.

Another 1 post wonder. Disgruntled driver looking to release their own personal frustration.

I think I know who this is. Anthony did some house cleaning and fired 4 drivers. Judging by the way its typed up I would say this is Preston.

Preston is a rambunctious, slightly naive and immature 22 yr old. He has the gift. He will make a good truck driver one day. But he lets his personal life get in the way of doing the job he needs to complete.

The only way he would have been over gross is if he failed to comply with a company rule that you dont top off the trucks that have the twin 150 tanks before you pick up a load. This is common sense for most drivers. But when your mind is not focused on the task at hand, you make mistakes. At which point all he had to do was go back to the shipper and ask for a pallet or 2 to be removed. We leave NH on 93 heading into Mass. There is a weigh station thats usually closed when we leave, we use that to scale out at (Nothing like a free scale) before we head west. Preston knows this, I have shown it to him. Its less than 8 miles from the shipper. 2 days coast to coast? Be realistic,.. we all know thats BS. 2 days left if you spent the first 3 days sight seeing.

Preston does not follow instructions very well. The biggest problem that I had with him.
I was running out of hours and Preston was in with another driver who was having issues making his deliveries on time, so they were placed in as a team. I swapped trailers with them at Council Bluffs, and Preston got in my truck with me. He knew that this load was a priority and there was no time to smell the roses. If we ran back to back we would have about 3 - 4 hours to spare once we reached Boston Market. I had Preston run the first leg. He assured me that he was not tired and fully capable of driving out his full 11 hours. After an hour of making sure he was ok driving (I had problems with his driving habits in the past), I went to sleep. I awoke 6 hours later to find us stopped in a pull off at the Ind/Ohio state line. Preston is sound a sleep in the top bunk. Never woke me up. I was PO'd to say the least. Asked why he stopped and he said he got tired. Thats fine,.. but we were on a tight time schedule and he just let the load sit on the side of the road when we are supposed to be teaming. So now I have to boot scoot and boogie to get this to Boston on time. I just drove it straight through myself. Didnt even bother to stop when my hours were up for fear he may pull off somewhere again. Load was on time.

The biggest problem with Preston was his inability to follow simple instructions. He wanted to do things his way and only his way. To him, running 450 - 550 miles a day was good enough. It didnt matter if that would put him 3 - 6 hours late to a delivery. He could not understand the concept of route planning, using a map and time management. Hell, he had been here 4 months and bought his first map 2 weeks before he got fired.

Its not that Preston couldnt drive. If he stayed focused and followed through with what he needed to do he could have been a good driver. But he was too immature and let his personal life interfere with his job and thats what got him fired. There is much much more I can say, but I will leave that out of it, for now. Good luck to you Preston, where ever you bounce back.

As I stated to others who have asked me in private. Apergis is the best and worst all wrapped up in one. No company is perfect. How things work out for you here is entirely up to you. You make your deal coming in the door. Dont cry about how you made your bed after the fact. If you are in a position where no other company will hire you, chances are that Anthony will give you a job. But,.... you will pay your dues here. Make no illusions about that. If you keep it together, you can redeem yourself through this company and get your foot back in to an industry that may have previously shut you out.
