If this is not spelled out in your contract then it is a violation of the truth in leasing agreement......... but what are you going to do right? Been there.

IMO the mission plan now becomes 2 fold, cut the 10% anyway you can and then get out of there. It's a sinking ship.

Comdata works like this....( not prepaid ) A credit worthy carrier has to put up between 10 and 30 k ( depends on factors, trucks, history etc) in cash with Comdata. It's a reserve, untouchable. Then he has to put up a months avg. ( est) fuel bill or x per card issued.....and their usage will be averaged by Comdata and then continually adjusted.

Sounds like these butt heads didn't pay a fuel bill and tried to jive Comdata. Now their on some sort of a restrictive plan. Heck, they may have filed a CH-11 that triggered the Comdata shutdown.......never know.

Bottom line is they are in a bind and looking to you guys to help them out. I'd be careful how much credit ( in runs ) I would give them. They look like they have problems and want to share them with you.

I use comdata but don't have any of those 10% fees or what not mentioned earlier. It counts as paying cash and have never had issues with it. If I fuel $750 worth of fuel that's $750 I pay. Not $750 plus 10% fee hadi hadi hadda..

I have been around a lot of o/o's who use comdata for everything. there are some who run all week & owe the co money, cause of all the withdrawals & fee's. some get maybe $200.00 after earning $ 1500- $2500 cause they cannot or will not run on their own money. I have never used anything but cash, never an advance, have no idea how to use comchek or comcard.

I have looked into getting a fuel card and the best deal really is fleet one but that $.10 off cash price needs to be all the time not just the first 6months
When I was factoring some invoices I was getting charged $15 to load there fuel card but it was cost pluse $.06 so I really saved more money than it cost to factor but that won't work for you

I prefer TCH to Fleetone. You could not pay me enough to have another Fleetone card.

If you only pay $0.85 to write a TCH or check with any of the major fuel card companies you are getting a bargain. It is still less expensive than getting a bank cashier's check. If you use your card or write a lot of checks with the fuel card companies you may be better off with a PDCA card. It acts like a Mastercard debit or credit card. You get the cash price at the pump at any of the major fuel stops and a $0.02/gallon discount off the cash price at Flying J and Pilot with no transaction fees. You would no longer need to write TCH or fuel card checks since nearly every business takes Mastercard. You can fund the card with electronic transfers or any of the traditional means of making deposits as you would with any bank. But, you can also deposit a comcheck, TCH check, T Check, etc., on line or with just your telephone. There are NO fees for making deposits. The money is in your account immediately or within minutes. Since they cater to the trucking business it is very easy to do business with them. The bank has regular Mastercard accounts, fuel cards, etc., It is the only bank of it's kind that I know of that concentrates on the trucking industry.

Stop buying your fuel through your company on that Comdata card.

Get your own deal through NASTC that I use and I also feel it is the best deal for a the small O/O or atleast one of the best deals available to O/Os.

    NASTC website: http://www.nastc.com/

    NASTC fuel program Q&A: http://www.nastc.com/v3/FuelManagement/HowAndWhyQPNWorksP.php

Cost $250 a year (NASTC membership), $50 one time NASTC Fleet One card set up fee and $3.75 a month for Fleet One Card maintainence through NASTC to save from $.06 to $.30+ cents per gallon less than posted pump cash price in their fueling network that include all the TA/Petros and alot of Independents throughout the country. I estimate my fuel cost savings will be over $2,500 this year compared to before NASTC.

I assumed you are not bound by contract to use your Carrier's fuel program?

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but they will spend the same amount whether it's cash, credit, or fuel card. If you make 2000 and spend 1500 to make it, the end result is the same. I've never heard of a company tacking on a 10% fee, and I don't know one o/o that would pay that. Typical Comdata fees are a buck or two a transaction. For us, fueling is free, but writing a check will cost you a buck. Paying .30+ cents more for fuel by paying cash is WAYYYY overrated.

I was considering a comdata or similar card. BBut honestly I just fuel at the smaller places. If I am stuck at a big chain I'll usually ask someone for a shower and someone usually always has a spare. If not a lot of the employees will give you a shower. Screw these cards and their ridiculous costs.
