why do drivers stand for governed trucks?

Far more experienced than 20 years . Yes some may be but if driving a bomb like you imply they are not professional nor smart. Fuel is not something that should ever be driven in that matter. I care if the driver has 50 years in. But by 68 we hope he has wised up and knows better! But your attitude will kill someone one day. If you want to kill your self who are we to say anything. But you will most likly take someone else or more. Fire is not a good way to go! Time to grow up. Play time is over. We lost one of our drivers last year to fire! He did nothing wrong! Just wrong place at wrong time! His truck was knocked off road and struck the underside of bridge. Fire destroyed the bridge. I pray the impact killed him and he was spared the flames! So speed would have only made everything worse. Heck of a man! Think he was last 50 s and had driven most of his life. Know he is in far better place now! But his family will always miss him! At the start of your next shift just take 2 sec and really thing about this, and can you control what's happening in everyone else's car/ truck? Steering linkage broke when he was hit. So brakes is all he had so he had 70 feet to stop from 63 about half of what he needed. Now figure if it had been 80.

A fuel tanker with 8500 gallons of gas doesnt burn, there is no suffering. Its over in a nano second.

He had sugar, which when airborne is a fuel, acts almost like napalm. But I drove by before they had fire out. Call dispatch, and they didn't know aboit the wreck. Found out few weeks who it was. Cars got together (racing?) Two lanes over and slid In to his steer from behind. His skill level was never a factor. Just basically out of the blue!

i understand my job man, and trust me, i think about it everyday. i know i drive fast, and i know my life is always a few seconds from being over if i lose concentration. but i am very safe. i know i dont show it in my posts but i am a very cautious driver, and i know what im hauling, and i know how dangerous it is, and im always paying attention to everything around me. i take it very seriously

That's what you'd hope, make it fast! Truth is if the tanker ruptures and catches fire they don't usually explode right away, everything the fuel spills over or under will burn, enough fuel will have to empty out to allow a fuel air mixture inside so it can ignite or when the fire outside causes the fuel inside the tank to expand then you got what's called a bleve, and if the fire didn't kill you this will and everybody around you.

That's the entire truth right there, in bold. It doesn't matter how fast a truck runs....it matters who's in control of it. An idiot running 55 or 75 is still an idiot. Someone with dangerous habits will still be dangerous, regardless how fast his rig goes. For some reason though, many, many people fail to understand this.Scania man and Crazy37 Thank this.
