I just bought a 2007 Volvo VNL670 with the cumming engone and eaton ultrashift tranny. I was leaving on my first haul and the tranny got stuck in gear and wouldnt shift anymore. I read the codes and got MID 130 PID 60 FMI 10. I can reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery and it will work fine for awhile but then get again. I have been reading online and read there may be a software update that will fix this issue. Has anyone encountered this issue and had the software update? Did this fix the problem? Dealer want $300 to read the scu and flash it. Could it be something else other than the software? Any help would be appreciated. TIA

The dealer should be able to tell you whether/when there was a software update, and based on your VIN what version you have. They get bulletins from Volvo telling them. The bulletin will say what fixes were included in the update. If it's not software it's probably a solenoid. The code will tell you that.
Don't tell them to flash the ECU if it doesn't need it, because they will do what you want.
Get them to diagnose the problem/code, and if it is a flash update they shouldn't charge you for diagnosis.
How many miles?
Has the transmissionn ever been serviced? -
This is not software issue. PID60 is gate position problem, like bad rail selecting motor, bad rail sensor, some mechanical damage.
-
Thanks for the replies. So do you think it will need a rebuild or a new tranny? whats the going rate for a rebuild?
-
Miles are $700K. Not sure when the last time the transmission was serviced as records weren't provided.

Pull the dip stick. Smell the fluid. Is it black or dark brown? (varnished)
Is it slimy or burnt smelling?
If the tranny fluid isn't red or at least maroon in color, have them pull the pan and inspect it for metal filings.
Then have them flush it or at least let it drain, replace the filter and fluid.
Many times this is all it takes. It's risky because you might need an entire rebuild anyway (excessive metal filings in the pan will tell ya).
A GOOD tranny rebuilder (that's rebuilt this tranny) will be able to tell you.
Dealers rarely have techs that understand trannys. I wouldn't allow them to do anything but service it. -
was toying with buying the same type truck.does it have a 450isx and did you buy it from michagan? thanks jim

It's an automated transmission, not a full automatic with a torque converter, so the fluid doesn't get burnt from slipping.
I'd turn it into a manual if it was mine. It's a ten speed? so whatever the going price for a reman Eaton-Fuller Ultra-shift 10 speed removed and replaced from a Volvo. I have heard of a shaft coming out of the case, and the lease company had it repaired. -
rail selecting problem is usually related with rail motor (on top of tranny). what a reasont to rebuild transmission? just fix x-y motors
-
I have since switched the batteries out and have not had the code pop back up. Hopefully it was just the TCU getting low voltage. Thanks for all the replies. I have been told the x-y rail tend to have issues on these trucks so i will have that checked out.
