On a side note, I've always wondered what they hauled? Can you give any insight into their loads?
-
My guess is coils
-
I've wondered that myself, not very often you see a thermo king on the front of a covered wagon.
-
My guess would be mill rolls, temp controlled to compensate for moisture, super heavy. Once hauled one 74k#, 18' long. The warehouse in Burns Harbor,In. at the steel mill
was impressive, millions of lbs. in rolls. I'd like to know how thick the concrete was. -
Forgot to add, temp controlled not only for moisture, but to keep the roll at a "constant" temp. to reduce expansion/retraction.
-
That is real interesting. What is that heavy it needs so many axles and requires climate control.

when i pull a 3 axle trailer i can do 96k with a 4 axle 105.5 with a 4 axle tractor.

My grandfather helped build it. He was a cement finisher in his early days, too bad he's passed on and I can't ask him. My guess is 5' thick tho since the floor is elevated above where the trucks load. and to hold that kind of weight, it would have to be.
