At 96 feet long and doing my Hillbilly math for that underpass the load would have to be 12' to fit it being 96' long.

Any time you are 96' long and 14'2" tall, you will be noticed. But, there are a lot of oversized loads on the road. I can't see traveling I-20 if you are on I-10 going to Houston. I prefer I-40, but that would add about 150 miles to your trip. From Los Angeles you would take I-10, I-15, I-40, 287, I-35, I-35W, I-20, I-45 to Houston. You could take 35E, but for the construction. I took an oversized out not too long ago and was told that it would be best to take I-35W. You would be going through a few smaller towns on 287. I-10 would be the better choice. I don't care much about that route, but it would be better for your pick up and delivery points. Unless there is a good reason to take another route, I-10 would be your best bet, military or not.

The no permit / no escort thing is simple to understand. He's hauling a Secret Alien Spaceship for the Guberment.

    SHHHH ! It's a secret !

It would only take about $150 for permits, and the only state that would require a escort is NM, unless there is a lot of overhang. If you are doing it so cheap that you can't do it legal hope you get what you deserve.

After looking at the OP previous posts, i think there may be more fantasy than fact in the subject of this post.

96ft long is NOT a load for a rookie! I wonder what fool decided to dispatch this guy with this as his 1st load? Anyone on western I-10 keep an eye out for a 96ft long OD load with the trailer in the ditch or hung up on a curb when making a turn into a truck stop.
