That's the key there....
This last load I took from WI to RI and was 1 of three loaded up with misc heavy mining equipment.
One guy loaded a day before and one 2hrs before me.
My appt was 9-1 on Friday. I arrived at 8:57 and delivered immediately.
The guy that left the day before me? - No idea where he was.
The guy that left 2hrs before me? - No idea where he was either.
Funny thing, the 1st guy that left a day before me is an actual driver of the carrier/broker that gave me this load.
I advised dispatch that my customer was disgruntled about the missing trucks but that there wasn't anything I could do
to help him...they don't work for me and aren't my trucks.
My stuff gets there safe and on-time.

MNdriver you do realize that there is quite a difference in you stating about not getting a DECENT rate from LANDSTAR as your dryvan and Hanadarko getting $2.50 / mile is for flatbed loads.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
i am a leased operator, and that statement on the freight conformation is mainly for us leased guys. While the actual revenue amount does not change, they will pay us 100% of all tolls and permits, instead of us just getting the 73% in our contract..... I'll try to explain.
Load pays $1,000
We get 73% =$730
Toll was $10
So with that toll reciept, we now get $740 of the load -
That makes complete sense.
So then I presume as a non-leased operator...whatever the "CARRIER PAY" is stated as, thats consider "all inclusive" ? -
when a broker offers me loads for less that $1.50 a mile regardless of WHO they are, that's cheap freight they can put on someone else's truck.
I can find $2.50 freight. But it takes some calling. -
I agree with that. I will not haul for anything under $2/mile but it doesn't take much effort to find decent freight for flatbeds.
I had no less than 6 calls Tuesday...one after the next...the best load paid $3.50/mile but that was hauling bricks.
I dont get that since usually bricks don't pay well...seemed a bit suspicious to me so I passed on it. -
Weds I had loads offered to me :
650 miles for $650.
800 miles for $900.
240 miles for $350.
140 miles for $250.
Um....NO. -
I laugh out loud when I do the math and call them on this crap.
I tell them what "I" need or want for that run and then get the old "I'm putting everything I have into this..the margin is too tight".
Yea ok. So then I tell them to go find someone who WILL run for that crap rate.
Sometimes they call back. I am told the shipper came up more. I never buy that crap..the broker just lowered their take from 90% down to 80%...haha
I love it when I already have a load under me and have to tell them "NO".
Sadly, someone out there will pull freight for $1/mi as they think they are making money...well if your cost is $1.25/mi and your getting
$1/mi ...you're essentially paying the shipper for the privilege of hauling THEIR freight!FLATBED Thanks this. -
told more than a couple brokers that this week...
"I am not going to PAY YOU to move your freight. I need $XXX and here's my number." -
That is correct. And most of the leased OP's don't know about this as well. I didn't until another driver told me about it. So I sent in a copy of a toll with my paperwork and it worked that way. So no weverytime I get a toll, i just send it in and they pay it... no idea how it works, but that's how they explained it to me.
