business license

    i plan on buying a truck and driving for a company (gordon central etc) do i need a business license? and since im on topic what else will i need to get myself going on this route? any advice and info is VERY appreciated...ive read a ton of info on here and i want to make sure the info i am reading is up to date....i have someone interested in helping me get started so i have one loan for truck and all start up costs and a kitty to have as a back up so i want to get everything i can in the first try...ty all for helping in adv.

    you will need a truck. then the company that pre hires you, will put bobtail insurance on it, so you can get to oreintation.
    once your in orientation the company will provide you with everthing you will need and contact numbers to get you up and running.

    pretty much. You don't need a business license, just use your SSN for taxes.

    so will i still need to file taxes qtrly?

    Yes you still need to file your quarterlies.

    Make sure to set up your books from the beginning. If you want to use a computer you can either use a spreadsheet or buy one of the trucking specific software packages. Truckers Helper (www.truckershelper.com) , Easy Trucking (www.easytrucking.com) and Trucknpro (www.foglinesoftware.com) are the three that I am most familiar. I believe that all three still have a trial you can download to see how you like it before buying. I prefer Trucknpro. It is a simple program to use and isn't all that expensive. They have also developed versions specific to Landstar BCO's and Conway owner operators and drivers.
