Making a differnce at PILOT

One thing about this subject is that these truckstops give out free showers if you get 50gal of fuel or more. I don't think any truckstop makes a whole lot of profit on fuel, maybe 5-10 cents per gallon.
They give out free showers, and they have to pay people to clean them, pay for the water, pay for the electricity, and pay for the land and taxes on their parking lots. They're not making any profit on those, so I don't expect diamond toilet seats. If they offer free showers, then good, that's on them, thanks, but at least keep them clean.

However, I'm pretty glad they got new towels. Those old yellow ones were like cardboard. I know, I should be bringing my own towel anyway.



What I hate the most about truckstop showers is if the water is cold/lukewarm, and/or bad water pressure. The Pilot in Greenfield, IN just east of the loop, I had a bad shower there once. I also had a really bad shower at some independent stop in Texas, there were crickets everywhere.

 

I actually had to call Pilot and ask why their coffee cups said 16 oz but were only 12 oz. I forgot my good coffee cup in the truck so I just used the coffee cup they give you, got out in the truck to pour it into my 16 0z Stainless Starbucks coffe cup (best cup) and it was only 3/4 full. Took Pilot cup home & measured, brim full, 12 oz. NOT NICE

 

Thanks, Sweet n' low. The one thing I see done at a lot of the pilots, is they sweep the shower bathroom floor dirt out into the hall...and I guess leave it, until they feel like sweeping it up.
What ends up happening is a lot of it ends up being tracked back into the shower room.
Oh, and usually the shower cleaning cart is permanently in the aisle somewhere.

 

I have had hit and miss experiences at different Pilots but I am glad to see that there is at least one employee out there that understands what needs to be done. I could care less if the showers are renovated, I just want them to be CLEAN. And two towels + a bath matt sure come in handy.

 

Be nice if those who bust their tails and really do take a personal interest in doing things right, like the OP, get a chunk of that change.

Now if every truck driver and person that ever wandered into a truck stop and be only half as diligent and caring as the OP, life would be even better.

 

I came looking for a thread like this since my Son recently started working maintenance at the Tulsa Flying Hook. He told me he gets tips in the showers, a practice I've never heard of. Is tipping a common thing?
Many of the problems I see frequently in the PFJ showers are plumbing, like a showerhead that has water spraying out sideways or a missing towel hook. What I normally do is thank the maintenance person on the way out. One girl at the Birmingham Pilot looked stunned that I thanked her. When I asked her id she had ever been thanked, she said never...
