FWIW, when I was a young buck, I was running a delivery route in Denver. I was using a window van. An Econoline with windows ALL AROUND it, including the back doors. BUT, those were the old swing doors, and when they were closed, there was a blind spot directly in the center of the back of the van.
I managed to put a perfect "V" right in the center of the back bumper, because there was a pole hidden in that blind spot. IT HAPPENS.

Look when you run offroad your truck is already half way to hell anyway so if lose a shoulder or slide off they understand. and if all you ever do is bang a pole in your career you will do great. I don't mean to trivialize it at all make sure you learn from it own up to it and the other give you crap for it just take it and go on. your doing fine.

things happen you will be fine,

in the seventies when i was young and the cars were fast
the poles use to jump out in the road but i think they are
permanent now so be carefulGiggles the Original Thanks this. -
You have to be really careful out there! Slow down and pay attention. Get out and look! Any other mishaps could result in losing your job and make it near impossible to find another driving job with preventables on your record! Take it slow man. Especially when in the construction side of the industry. There is a lot more to be weary of.
-
I've done that before, scares the bejeebers out of ya, doesn't it?
Mine was at about 3 mph, just shook the pole, and put a small dent in the rear of the truck. -
chompi Thanks this.

I do not know why everybody here is babing you about this. I also drive a tractor with 2 trailers in the oil fields everyday, you are driving around some of the most potentially dangerous objects in the world of driving. The pipepline around us are carring High Pressure Petroluem, and poisionus gases, High voltage electric, not to mention all the heavy equipment and men working near you.
Backing into a utility pole shows you are not taking your safety or anyone elses serously. And you should, that pole could have been a gas line, then boom you just killed half a dozen men.
Safety in the oil fields is everyones full time business, mistakes kill.
2 incidents in a short period of time, both of which sound preventable makes you a accident waiting to happen. You need someone to properly train you or you need to move to a different area of driving.
There are sumps capible of making your whole truck and trailer disappear, and no one would know till its too late.
Safety is the only job that matters. Our goal is everybody goes home to there famiily everyday, the good days are no accident or incidents. This should be taken very serious. More so than you seem too.
Be safe and be careful the life you save maybe your own. -
Do people really get mad when you get out and look? I never do or have never seen it and i can wait cause a wreck usually ruins more than one persons day
-
If they get mad cause I get you and look then there really going to pissed If I back into them. Let them wait.
