I think every item has been mentioned & correctly, #1 rule is "dont get scared" and the corollary "get out of the cab and look" ~ just about 7-10 days ago I passed my CDL-A driving with a 92, it was yields with no vehicles in sight so I will keep my style -> backing was given a 100-% perfect by the examiner,....this is what I did:

prior to the test, I had developed a throttle-up style that use a zig-zag to keep area behind truck "swept" visually, my trainer -{ I had a "rent a truck to do the driving portion" }- corrected me after one or two of those and directed total-slow, which with my experience I knew that would be what the examiner wanted if that is what my trainer instructed,....you have to "force it down" ( the impulse to be "cool" or appear proficient ) which is what I did - doing one thing and one thing only: total-slow ~ the area was an "access road" near the examination station and I could see enough to keep the area "swept out" but even when I had the examiner in the cab I explained that if we need to "get out and talk" then I as the person ultimately responsible for the operation of the vehicle would pull the knobs out and we would do exactly that ....

you dont tell badged law what to do ~ I did and that is the level of "control" you have to maintain - never move without 100-% certainty of what is actually there

Yea, stop before you hit anything. The tractor does not hit anything you do.

One thing i found is setting the tandems at the 41' mark is the easiest position for backing in. A good ratio of turning to overhang, maybe its just me. Goal goal goal!!!!!! Ive held up traffic in nyc with goal'n. Cars honking i didnt care it was my butt if i hit something like it will be your butt if you do. Also lets say you got the trailer in perfect but your tractor is still crooked. If room permits drop your trailer then rehook it straight. Might sound like more work but really how long does it take to crank landing gear, 30 seconds.
