Hey I searched and came up w/zip for Orlando. Trying to find advice re: driving, such as a route, paving, construction, trash, anything, w/a CDL B around the city. Am about to cough up for a class and know vy little.

Wanting to PM a member Chompi but rules won't let me 'til I've posted 7 times. Anyone know how difficult it is getting hired in the area if no experience? A google shows some who say completing from a good school will be counted as 1 yr (in other words they wink), others say no, need 6 months to a year just to get in the door. I imagine it all depends on where you're applying.

I just need to make decent $ and am seeing lots of job posts on employment sites re: CDL B. Don't see
a lot of downside to getting the license. Just want to get a better job in this crap town. Am planning on
taking a class through the county votech/high school.

Chompi is from Deland, just up the road, and he'd probably know alot about the local market beside OTR. I don't every want to drive OTR. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanx,

    Mac

Have you tried applying at your local school district to become a school bus driver the training is usually free and they'll provide you with a CDL B License. Most Class B driving companies want experienced drivers with 6 months to 1 + years experience. You don't need any experience to become a school bus driver.

Mears Motor Coach in Orlando will hire you and train you for your class B. All you need is a permit with air brakes and passenger. They will pay you $10.00 an hour while in training. After that it all depends on what type of driving you do that day. This is a 24/7 job. You must be flexible. You"ll make about $600.00 a week.

    Good Luck

being from the area I'd say its pretty hard. I went to school and didnt see too many that hired for local work. When I was in school all I wanted was local and didnt want to go otr. Regional at most but when I got out came to the conclusion that otr was the only way to get my foot in the door better at a local position after a year of otr. Otr really isnt that bad at all now that my year is almost up. Most local companies that I've seen have a lengthy application process to go through. I dont know about school busses or busses in general though so I could be wrong. Maybe a beer hauler or construction equipment after you get a class A. Plus with the job situation so bad in the area their are a lot of people applying for jobs so thats a factor also. And if the other applicants have any otr experience over your student status will get the job before you. I could be wrong and maybe dont know but thats what Ive learned.
