How To (Obtain A CDL)

Okay, I got a few questions. Ill try to make this short as possible.



I turn 21 in early October and am looking to get with a Company Sponsored Driving Academy to get my CDL. I have done Weeks worth of research on different companies and finally got a small list down of companies I wanna work for "Starter Companies" for that first years experience. Now the only problem now is, I live in North Carolina and I still have my Drivers License from Virginia. I don't have a car at the moment so haven't had any reason to switch it over. Should I surrender my license over? I spoke with a recruiter and he told me I have to find a school here in North Carolina to get my CDL, even though they have their own school. Why is this and is there any way around it? My step dad is even confused. He has been driving for 17 years him self before loosing his to a DUI about 3 years ago but, He or I don't understand why I have to go to school here? The recruiter told me I have to get the CDL from the state I reside in? If this is why case, why does the company even have a school? Okay, well with my step dads knowledge, he was telling me about getting a PO box with an actual address and not a number and get mail delivered to it to show the company my "Proof Of Residence" or the "DMV". Is this possible to do still to be able to go to a Company Sponsored school if I did this? I'm really confused on what I can and Cannot do. If I have to get a PO box that has an address I will do it.

Also, as far as transferring my CDL over to this state, I'm not worried about it. Its a federal thing so why couldn't I go to a school located in Georgia and just keep my CDL with that state and continue to live here in NC.

Thoughts, Ideas And Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Money is tight right now as is for most so I'm very limited to my options here.

FFE was on my list, but I spoke with a recruiter VIA live Chat from Central Refrigerated. I know some recruiters may not be all that knowledgeable and was hoping I had a wrong one. So I dunno...

 

I'm still confused about this hole residency thing? The hell does it matter any way? Its a Federal thing so it shouldn't be state by state as to weather I can't get my CDL in Texas or where ever I want. I'm guessing the main problem is that my state won't allow me to transfer an out of state CDL to North Carolina? Is this my problem?

 

I know I have to change it to the state I reside in but, what I truly don't understand is a company saying I have to get my CDL here in this state and I can't go to their school to get it. Whats up with that?
