Been driving local and the account I was on virtually came to a stand still. Decided I try regional again to see what's out there.
Me: 5 years otr
2 years regional
3 months local
These companies say I need a refresher course and have to go out otr witb a trainer 4-6 weeks.
WTF? I don't intend to be arrogant but I do not need either of those things. If I do sound arrogant its because the people that taught me to drive are all old school work your tail off true truck drivers and I have lots of experience and a spotless driving record.
Do these morons really expect drivers like me to accept trainee pay because I ran local for a few months? I already know the answer so I guess that make them the arrogant ones acting like I need them. No they need me. Have pleanty of local opportunity but I want to stretch my lags again. I'll do a l/p before I do 4-6 making $300 a week. At least I'd be in the truck by myself making about the same pay.
Wew! I ferl so much better now.![]()

Find a company that will appreciate your skill set. That's their way of depressing driver pay and keeping profits high. i would tell them where to shove it.

You need to look at different companies. I didnt have an issue and ive been out of a truck for a year and a half.
-
there are other companies.
the major carriers are the ones to stay away from. your nothing but a number to them. you risk a negative remark on dac. and a whole bunch of other reasons to stay clear.
i know where your comingt fr0m through. went down that road myself. the excuse i got was i need to know my way around the country. ummmmmmmmm. gps has been getting me around just fine. and making my deliveries and pickups.
the only refresher i needed. was the new hos rules. and i learned that from this forum.vitamin b Thanks this. -
For sure stay away from any company that "thinks" you need a refresher course. If your MVR looks good... you're golden ! Look for smaller outfits. Your real selling point ( as I see it) is you can do it all without a flinch. Drive OTR to the big city to make the delivery and drive in the congested area without coming apart.
I don't see your attitude as arrogant at all.vitamin b Thanks this. -
I was out since 1997, decided to go back out on the road. Kept getting told, class for $4- 5000.
I told them to pack sand and found a local 25-truck company that would work with me. 5 months later, I bought my own truck and am now leased on with BigBadBill at Farm2Fleet.vitamin b Thanks this. -
I don't know about other companies, but with us the ins. requirement is 3 yrs, clean MVR, after that I personally take any new guys for a road test. You can tell pretty quick who can drive and who can't. But again, we are a small company. JMHO.vitamin b Thanks this.
