One more question...Don't you guys ever worry about the car that is loaded on top of the cab? I know you probably want to save room, but it seems dangerous for the driver. Is the cab really built to withstand the weight of the car on top of it?

It's not so much the cab as it is the rack, or overhead, around the cab. It might not look like much from the road, but it's pretty tough iron .... until it rust's out bad enough. I've had F-250's and F-350's as well as 138" wheel base E-150 full size vans on the overhead. That said, however, the truck I'm currently operating, the hydrolics will barely lift an F-150 up more then 2 feet, so whatever goes behind the cab, with four F-150's on the top, has to be pretty low, like a Fusion or a Focus. With units on top like that, over a bumpy road, you WILL see the rack sway back and forth.

    Right on Speedloader.
Also Fourwheels, the head rack is independent of the cab itself. It is attached at the frame of the truck which allows the cab to float on its air bags. The steel and the design of the head rack are more than strong enough for any vehicle we put up there. Think of it like a roll cage on a race car or 4x4. It is specifically designed to do a specific job and it does it very well. If these rigs were not safe, DOT would not allow them on the road. If it was unsafe to load cars on top of the truck, car manufacturers would not let us put them there.

Trust us. We know what we are doing. Speedloader, SHO-TYME, and I have been doing this job for many years and we have seen it all. I will admit that there are some guys out there who should not be driving trucks let alone hauling cars, but they are few because those type of guys don't last long at this job. Out of ten drivers who try hauling cars, only one or two end up becoming car haulers because of how difficult it is. Those that make it past 2 years really have the right stuff.

    GAlanFink and Speedloader Thank this.

DOT would not allow them on the road if they weren't safe for the general public or the driver himself...?

Screw the comedy. Anyone know where I can lease or rent a 6/7 or even an 8 car quick loader?

Start with the people that make them. If they won't lease to you direct, then they sure as h#ll will know of someone who will.

Wouldn't it put my nerves at ease, if the responsible, safety-minded car haulers (like yourself), all had little flags on the top of their trucks? Just something to say that you are one that knows what they're doing.
I love big trucks, the over-sized, the tankers, all of them. I think in a former life I must have been a truck driver (who could shift!), just not a car carrier.
Thank you for taking the time...

Interestingly enough, I did do that... I hauled trash and having said that I 'tried it'... I think they're the worst drivers on the road bar none as a whole.
I'm not bashing you portable parking lots but you'all drive like you didn't plan to be as late as you seem to be. Try slowing down a little (as a whole) and my impression might improve.
I know some of you guys/gals aren't bad drivers - the same goes for the trash haulers but when 90% of the trucks laying over on their sides on ramps are trash trucks, it kind of makes you get an impression, ya know what I mean?
'stupidly submit(t)ed post without foresight' may be a reasonable assumption but given what I see 'statistically'... my observations remain unchanged,... at least until I see differently (as a whole).
I'm speaking of the majority, not the few (and that's not a good place to be... up there with trash jockeys).
