I really feel like i fit the bill of a truck driver, the lifestyle seems right for me and i feel that everything is pointing me towards perusing it as a career. The one issue i keep thinking of though is my severe lack of knowledge on the subject. I have never driven any truck, i have never driven any vehicle with a manual transmission, and i know very little about auto mechanics. I would love to become a truck driver, and am very willing to learn all i can to become one. Do you think my lack of experience/knowledge can be overcome? Or am i too much of a newbie?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Am i too much of a newbie?

Any person with average intelligence can do anything that requires average or less than average intelligence. I know guys in my trucking school who totally sucked at everything and they have jobs still.

That is sad. But so true.

good news for you. you should be easy to teach. A teacheable driver will be a successful driver.

Nobody is born knowing how to drive a truck, shift gears, or understand auto mechanics. They are all learned activities. There was a time every driver you see was in the same boat. Some learned earlie than others but all learned.

I feel ya. Up until about 4 months ago I would have stated all the same. I literally spent a month reading TTR and finding out what the industry was all about. Then I applied to a trucking school. Now I've worked my way up to not just driving a van, but driving it well. YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU PUT IN THE EFFORT. You may want to check out my blog. It's perfect for you as it recaps everything from Day 1.
Good luck! -
Just because you don't have any knowledge of knowing how to drive a semi, don't let that stop you in pursueing this carreer. Many of us knew absolutely nothing about trucking when we first started and yrs later we're still out here.I could'nt drive a stick,I thought that's too big of a vehicle, knew nothing about the mechanical side.It all takes time. After doing this so long it becomes second nature.

Rule #1.......Do not ride the center lane all the time in that 63 mph company truck!....

Really though, you can learn it if you put your mind to it.
It all takes time so don't get upset if you run into snags along the way during training. -
shoot, half the drivers out there still ain't got a clue !!!!!!!!! lol
been asked ,"how do you entertain yourself all day while driving",? say what !! I'm freakin' driving not sitting in my easy chair at home.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
That is the truth!
