Does dispatch ever ask an otr or 11 western driver to do local work, and if so, does it happen very often. Also can a driver say no, or do they use the strong arm tactic and threaten to terminate the driver.

Local for how long? May customarily uses OTR & 11 Western drivers to make local deliveries, 1 or 2 while at a particular yard if needed. You are paid hourly, which isn't very much too be honest.

You will most likely get paid miles over hourly. That was my experience. Then you have to go back and forth with your dm to get your hourly pay. Pretty sad considering you are doing them a favor.

Yeah, I remember the first time I went to Denver and received a preplan to make a local delivery. When it was all said and done I was into it for about 4 hrs. My next check had 60 cents on it LOL. They paid me for 2 freaking miles ;-)

It took about 3 weeks of back and forth before they finally put $20 on my check for it. After awhile I stopped worrying about, if I got a local delivery, I'd just run it, remind my dm it was hrly pay and if it it showed up on my check, great, if not, oh well,l I figured it was just part of my having to bend over and take my May "Trucking" like a man LOL

It was always in the dispatch that it was hourly. Look at your pay stubs to find out you only got mileage.

All my local runs show mileage; one time 14 miles, today it was 8 miles. Today's was after sitting for the weekend and getting the dispatch early Sunday morning so they won't have to pay Layover... All told, I would be making $2.23 for almost 3 days of time. Not too happy about that. DM is working on addressing this. We'll see.

Had a chance to be a local driver out of Yolo. Dan Knowles the D.M. showed me a pay scale sheet that showed 26 to 28 cents a mile depending on length of trip, plus 30 dollars per drop. Mostly Bay Area Costco runs, (hate bay area Costco runs, 2 stores per run) also you gotta drive a 45 series. Gotta 2013 587 and was too close to my 1 year time in, so I turned it down. Funny thing is, I do 3-4 Costco runs each 25 days between home times. 50 dollars in bridge tolls, 10th st in San Francisco !! YOWZA
Should say that a actual local driver would know more than me, I had the pay sheet, but can't find it now.

I've done alot repower local runs, you mostly get hosed. Did a Jubitz to Tigard Costco repower, got paid 9 miles, after howling about it to my D.M., he gave me an Hr. Spent a day just before july 4th doing a string of local runs, a total of 355 miles with 9 different trailers. Just got paid for the miles, didn't complain though cause I got caught in a Portland traffic jam, and I was just happy to make it to Jubitz with 3 minutes left on my 14. Didn't know what they paid me till I checked my pay online. If you go 48 states you do far less local repowers. Least ways my buddy who went the 48, hardly does them any more.
