Is Stevens Really The Best Training Company?

I'am not a Stevens Transport driver, but was interested in them before, did alot of research on them and could answer some of the questions you have. For hometime at Stevens, it depends where you live but sometimes it can be that long. Their trucks do look great, read somewhere before Stevens fleet average age is 16 months. For their transmissions, I know Stevens trucks had 10 speeds dont know if they changed it. Alot of companies govern their trucks at 62 for safety reasons. This will be the fastest you can go on their equipments. For the miles before I heard 2800-3000 average. And Stevens is mostly a otr company you should pick up and deliver in all 48 states, or drive thru them. I dont know the rest of your questions but someone that do know will help you answer them. I was interested in them before because I wanted to train at their company and was interested in their lease program. Now im currently with a small company and doing ok. They do sound like a great company, but not all drivers go thru the same experience with a company. But for a beginner If you believe in yourself and know you will be success at being a truck driver than this is one of the companies you should go with. GoodLuck to you Andre

After I left with Werner, I needed a job quick. Was not ready to do lease so Prime and Stevens would be off my list. And the only way for me to go to either 2 companies if I would lease a truck and I feel I'am not ready to lease yet. But they both are a great company. There are many other major companies out there, I just didnt know which ones had a good lease program. At Stevens since they are a training company, a combination with training and leasing would get you on the road more to make more money. Thats why I was so interested in them and also Prime. Next year Im planning to try lease around April or May of next year. Saving up money than maybe around that time I will have the interest for a big company to lease at. Some small companies can make drivers make money because some small companies make drivers out on the road more. It may not have the same benefits and opportunities a large company would, but some drivers like smaller companies than major companies for many reasons

 

You can expect to be out for 5 to 6 weeks at a time and home for up to 5 days.
Stevens is mostly 8 speeds now but there are still some 10s around.
No, as a company driver you dont get to pick your truck. Its whatever they assign you.
The lower speed is to save money on fuel, plain and simple. Its not a big deal.
No, you can not park at your house .. even if you have a moat and drawbridge lol, unless you lease. Then you can park wherever you want.
The Acadamy is good. They arent going to hold you hand and make you learn, but they will help you.

 

Stevens has 8 speeds ?

Only OTR company I ever heard of using those !!!

 

It is a 13 w/o the splits. When they sell them they can convert it to a 13.

 

M experience with Stevens is anything but Northeast. We do go there, but in my first 90 days I have made it across the Mississippi exactly 3 times, all the rest of the time was spent out west. Lots of time in the Southwest, however I am on home time now in Delaware and will have to see where I am dispatched from when I leave.

I talked to one Driver in California about three weeks ago, that said he had been stuck in California for about 9 weeks, just running stuff up and down the coast there, Oakland to LA and SD for example, but last weekend I was talking to a driver in Syracuse NY who told me he had been stuck in the North East for about three weeks, so it is really going to depend on where you are and where the freight is going. The more established drivers are going to get the better loads, but my experience has been that as long as I get the pick ups and delivery's done on time the loads keep coming. My first one out of the gate Solo was 1400 miles.
