Ive been reading throu this forum looking for good company to drive for. Well I think I made the best decision to and also picked the right company to start with. Let me introuduce myself to this forum, my name is Andre, I live in Tifton, GA. Im 47 years old. Ive been searching on the internet for a good company to start of with, and Stevens was the best out of all in my opinion. They sound like they have the best training the best equipments to drive and take care of their drivers good. Thats a company I would want to drive for. I read alot in the aviary and dont see a lot of negative things much. More seem positive and the Stevens drivers I see on the aviary sounds happy they are driving for Stevens. After deciding I want to go with Stevens I filled out in online application and called the next day. I have a great driving record, no tickets or accidents on my license. Ive been pulled over twice but didnt get a ticket. My physical is very good, everyday I excercise and walk or run. I dont drink or smoke, and never been convicted or arrested. My application was accepted and my recruiter name is Denise. I didnt get to talk to her that much but she did give me some information about the company. I tried calling her today but she was not in her office. So since I read through this thread all the time, I registered to ask some questions here to communicate with the Stevens drivers or anyone who experience Stevens before. This forum is really helpful and I really needed help on these questions I had. How is the driving academy at Stevens? I wanted to know if their instructors are really good and do they work hard with you at all times. For the hometime I hear its 5-6 weeks out is this really true? Hometime is not that big of a problem because I could stay out a month but 5-6 weeks and 4 days off is a little problem, not hard. I live in a house and have a gate in the front higher than 6 ft with fence surrounding all around with secure parking. Will Stevens let me take the truck home or still will have to park at a approve location. I see in their fleet they have brand new trucks, Peterbilt and Kenworths. Is it possible to ask for a truck you would want to drive after training or do they just assign you one. I like the T700 but dont know if its comfortable inside. I read in the Stevens thread that their transmissions are 10 speed. But then saw another place where they were changing to 8 speed. What transmission to Stevens have in their fleets? Also I see in a website called truckingtruth.com that Steven trucks are governed at 62mph and after 2 years they change it to 65mph. So this means that the fastest their trucks can go is 62 starting out. It wouldent be a problem driving at 62 but it would be more tiring and less miles in a day. Driving at 62 how do drivers get a lot of miles in a week. They have a video online where they said solo drivers get 2600-3100 miles in a week. This is a lot and I think they are the only company that get solo drivers that much miles. And do they take loads to all 48 states because I saw somewhere in this forum where they mostly stay in the northeast area.

You can expect to be out for 5 to 6 weeks at a time and home for up to 5 days.
Stevens is mostly 8 speeds now but there are still some 10s around.
No, as a company driver you dont get to pick your truck. Its whatever they assign you.
The lower speed is to save money on fuel, plain and simple. Its not a big deal.
No, you can not park at your house .. even if you have a moat and drawbridge lol, unless you lease. Then you can park wherever you want.

I talked to one Driver in California about three weeks ago, that said he had been stuck in California for about 9 weeks, just running stuff up and down the coast there, Oakland to LA and SD for example, but last weekend I was talking to a driver in Syracuse NY who told me he had been stuck in the North East for about three weeks, so it is really going to depend on where you are and where the freight is going. The more established drivers are going to get the better loads, but my experience has been that as long as I get the pick ups and delivery's done on time the loads keep coming.
