Since we still don't have a 3rd Driver in our rotation I went to the yard this evening. I hooked up to an mt and loaded most of my stuff in the truck. I am supposed to be coming out tomorrow at 1500. I am sure if I do I will probably get the infamous Akron to Gary run and relay it there. I actually I need to go to a terminal anyway. So why not Gary, that way I can sit for 2 days waiting for them to check the adjustment on the lock jaw for the 5th wheel. Which only takes 15-20 minutes to do.

I agree. I always contended that since I was signed up to be a flatbedder, I should get the flatbed rate no matter what I was pulling. It is not my fault they can't get flatbed freight. If they deadheaded me back to the yard on my last trip before going home I got the van rate even if I had a flat or a curtain.

You're FM/DSR/DM or whatever they heck they're called needs to step up. They should be fighting that fight for you. I used to fight with planners all day long. If your dispatcher let's them do what they want, you'll get the scraps, if they fight for you you'll only occasionally get the scraps.

Lately the planners have been setting very unrealistic delivery appointments. I'm talking a 700 mile run that picks up when you only have 4 hours on your 14 left and delivers the next day at noon.

Sounds like they're getting lazy and relying only on the computer to set appointments. They might want to use the old net phone and reach out and touch someone. Standards man, that's all I'm asking for. Why isn't every customer called, I know the computer is supposed to make life easier, but if they're producing transit times that cannot be met a phone call clears up most every issue.

I trip plan, accept the pre plan then send a free form saying when my eta will be. The load I'm on now was 1200 miles total. I picked up late last night, only got 100 miles in before my 14 was about to run out, I'm supposed to deliver tomorrow at noon tomorrow. Then I had to stop in ellenwood to get my tires fixed on my trailer, then my eta was 1530. Then after leaving ellenwood on i285 3 trucks and a tanker got into an accident. I sat on i285 today for 2 hours.

I sent my FM a message saying "forget that eta, big accident on i285".

He already knew about it though.

Sitting in the graveyard! So, funny that you guys are talking about planners. My Monday morning load was, remember I had 3 1/2 hours to drive, dead head to Harrow, ON, pick up and then return to the states to deliver at 0900 on Tuesday. Uhm.........
FM looked at that and said the same thing I did, CANCEL that preplan. In the afternoon I get a new one, basically the same thing but pick up Tues, deliver Wed.

Ok, a question, why would the person who does ACE end up doing the safety meeting in Marshfield? I lost 90 minutes today waiting to get my ACE faxed to me. Finally said screw it, get it done and I'll check back in cuz I need to get rolling. Rolled for and hour, only went 30 miles (gotta love Canada), and stopped and had them fax it to me costing them the fax which would have been free if it was done at the shipper.

Question for anyone, Roehl or not. Why is paying the $10.75 customs fee hit and miss? When I crossed today I didn't pay it, but the last time I crossed (3 weeks ago) I paid it. Was just a little confused on that one.
