Hey Dinky...if you post on a thread you are subscribed. Sounds like you are having a great week! Good for you and happy birthday to the little man!!
Today marks the first time I have ever driven a big rig! I got 30 minutes in on the range and didn't do to bad for a rookie. Take offs were smooth for the most part, even after stopping on a hill. Double clutching is another story. LOL I had a hard time not pushing the clutch to the floor as you do in a 4 wheeler. Practice, Practice, Practice!!!!! I've got 6 more weeks to Practice!
Stay safe!! -
You will get it, just day 1!

I'm so used to double clutching...I drove a five speed 2 weeks ago.....my first car was a clutch.....wanna know how great I did? TERRIBLE! I kept double clutching that SOB! It took about 4 blocks for me to realize, I'M IN A CAR! hahaha
-
Now that's funny but I can understand how you could do that?
Today was great!! I felt like I was driving the truck instead of it driving me...if that makes sense. They set up cones and barrels that we had to traverse and that was a lot more fun. Tomorrow we will start backing as well as continuing on the course. -
Like a duck to water!

Quack Quack
The truck today was a much better truck. The gearshift was actually in the right place and worked. The hardest thing about it was getting it into 1st gear when stopped. You had to release the clutch just enough so it would slip into gear. It took me a couple times to find that sweet spot and then I didn't miss it again.
We had 4 trucks on the range at a time and if you followed the truck in front of you you couldn't get through the gears for all the stops and slow downs. I would hang back and let them get far enough away so I could start from a dead stop and shift up through 5th gear. I also practiced stopping on a hill and starting without rolling back. That was easy. I don't ride the clutch and I watch my mirrors, especially the side where I'm turning.
They are tightening up the course by moving the cones closer in the turns. I like that and want it as tight as they want to make it. The instructors are very good and pretty cool to boot. I'm really looking forward to backing tomorrow and working the tighter runs through the course. We will be off for Monday but they said we would probably be going on the road Tuesday. Only those that I have permit! HAHA..Glad I decided to go ahead and get mine!!
Anyway...It was a good day and looking forward to tomorrow!
