My front motor mount on a Detroit has just today started letting ( on big bumps only ) the fan go down slightly and scrub the Fan Cover ( Schroud sp? ) .

This only occurs on major bumps like WEST MEMPHIS the bumpest road in the world ..

My question is : do I replace them now or just run it .. It's barely scribing the fan cover but the black plastic is seen on the fan blades ... Just slightly touching on bumps does not do it and has bout 1/4 in Clearence other wise

    Thanks

Replace! Just finished repairs a few hrs ago at Kenworth in Toledo, OH. Broken front motor mounts loosened a bracket in the fan shroud. The fan sucked the fiberglass piece into it, shredded the fan, put a blade through the radiator. $4,000 in damage...

Missed my drop in RI this morning because of the repair. Now I am stuck with the load on my trailer for another week. Another $8-10k in revenue lost...

all shops suck. i have yet to find anyone that can actually fix my truck. and not bend me over in the process.

i drove a kenworth once. that had a problem with cracking the frame. there's not a lot of clearance between the fan and shroud. what's minor always has a tendency to cause major problems.

and i didn' tthink ANY road was worse then oklahoma city.

Hind sight being 20/20 I should have done something different. I thought they were my best option to get back on the road quickly. Hope I never do, but if I ever break down in Toledo again, I'll PM you:biggrin_25519:

1 10mm wrench X 4 10mm bolts. loosen, lower fan shroud just a little, keep fan blades from chewing up shroud and potential other damage.

which way would you loosen though. cuz you've only got 1/4 inch ALL the way around the circumference. if he takes it one way to gain some clearance he's losing in another area where he might end up hitting.
