Seems Gravedigger has lost his enthusiasim. Has he tired of flatracking, or has he found himself unprepared for a Lease/Purchase with CRST (Cheap Rate Steel Transport)?

I would like to hear how he is doing with Malone. I think they are a little vulnerable if capacity starts outstripping demand. Although, I will assume he is missing in action because he is staying busy.

Yep, been pretty busy. Stayed out for 2 weeks to prepare for the long labor day weekend. I'm doing just fine. Getting better and faster at securement and tarping. Been learning a lot from other flatbedders. Some from talking to them, a lot from just watching. Who knows, I may be watching YOU.

EDIT: Also, I'm hauling about 75% crst loads and 25% broker loads. Usually the crst loads average about $2.40/mile, about $1.90/mi with fsc and tarp pay after they take their cut. I found I do well taking shorter 400-500 mile runs I can do in a day, or take a 300mi run, deliver it, and pick up another run to complete the next day. I have no trouble getting to sleep but I sweat through clothes like crazy, couple changes a day.

Nice tip for rolling straps: Use a cordless drill with one of those odd bits.

I keep my straps in the tarp box. I can roll a strap in less than a minute now and when using them I fold the excess in half and put the fold in the roller thingie (sorry don't know what it's called) So I only have to winch half the excess strap. Dunno if that made sense.

tip from the wise: NEVER DO THAT! Hook it to the rubrail and tighten it, sure it takes longer but they won't slide between the trailer tires and become unuseable.

Doesnt sound like he does that, he said he stores them in the tarp box when not in use. Digger your going to get a lot longer strap life with what your doing.

OHH didn't see that. Oh well, nice tip for ones that have no room in the sidebox.

Not kidding, I have to take half my box out just to get my cheater bar.

Yes makes since also your straps are easier to tighten and stay tight that way. I fold my several times and just put the end of the fold in the winch and leave enough to go around the winch at least one time if that makes since .
