    Hey folks
Recently my mileage ticker on the speedometer stoppped keeping track of miles. It stopped working all together after a truck wash. It comes back to life every so often but tracks 1 mile every 300 miles or so. Anyone know where the sensor is located? Was told somewhere by the transmition and it was an easy fix but can't find what it looks like online. Kenworth t600 2003, any help is appreciated.. also the speedometer wworks fine I can see how many mph I'm going its justthe total miles I have on truck is not working nor the trip mileage ticker..

If the speedometer works, the sensor is fine. 99% odds are that it is the speedometer head itself.
Paccar will be $450-$550 for a new one. But these guys are under $200. http://www.4statetrucks.com/

How can I make sure its the head before ordering that new piece? I've been to 2 truck stops and both had 3 + hour waits, but both said it was the sensor and they didn't have the part so I why wait 3 hours if they can't put the piece in?

let's not forget that there are odometer laws too. but i beleive it's 10 years. so your probably safe with a 2003.

your not allowed to tamper with the odometer. every vehicle must have exact mileage.

in utah though. after 10 years then it don't matter. but that might be a fed regulation too. i'm not sure.

it's part of a crackdown for those sellers that have been ROLLING back the odometer on used vehicles.

that's one of the reasons odometers are digital now. no meter to roll back. plus the fact that in the old days. there used to be a cable that went from the transmission to the head. commonly famous for breaking.

is it not possible for someone with a fancy scan tool to "hack" the odometer?

who would roll back miles on these trucks besides dealers, i mean most of these trucks all have over a million miles new or old.

besides you can do computer checks and delaer checks to see about miles but will only lead you back to truck being worn down so why buy.

but yeah sensor on rear seal retainer housing of transmission. easy swap out if you have a 2 wire its like $25 if its a 3wire it like $75.

Anything digital with a brain can be manipulated. Depends on if it's worth the person forking over quite a few pennies and resources to actually find someone that can do it.
