Maverick Driver general bs thread

I was number three on fm's board for fuel mileage last quarter!

 

I was at the Fort yesterday. They were running 4 hours behind on loads. It was 97 degrees and some corporate stiff was riding around in a four wheeler ridding drivers about chin straps! There were a bunch of ticked off drivers. Corporate needs to work on their approach to "remedial training" They always choose the stick before the carrot. What would happen if they found a driver in 100% PPE compliance and gave him recognition, maybe 50 bucks or even a slap on the back. Positive reinforcement will go a long way, but what do I know I'm just a stupid truck driver. Ok, got that off my chest, now I'll shut up and drive.

was actually referring to a number of my students comments that came to mind after reading in this thread of drivers new to Maverick or trucking getting upset to the point of contemplating quitting and posting it in here. I've had at least 3 of my students tell me their recruiter told them they would be home 85% of the weekends which was quickly disspelled by a hypothetical: You've been hung out 8 weekends (15% of 52) and are in laredo, tx. Home is columbia, sc. so Maverick is going to get you a round trip ticket home for the weekend?????.......NOT!!!

So was I referring to you, no. I was inspired by your post and other new drivers posts about being hung out to post what i did about playing postman.

Was there yesterday too 11ish to 1300ish helping other drivers secure on the yard while for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, our load was being "retagged". I didn't get a pat on the back or 50 bucks for following procedure either by wearing my PPE including chinstrap, but Chris did say hello. He's posted in Fort Smith now and no longer in the Orientation Building not sure if he's the "corporate stiff" to which you referred but i'd say we'd all take a big paycut if they paid drivers extra for wearing PPE they are supposed to wear in the first place.

How bout a waiver the driver has to sign at customers that require PPE that reads, "if you choose not to wear your PPE or follow plants in place safety procedures, by signing this form, you hereby release this customer and your employer from all liability and workman's compensation following your injury" Might reduce our insurance rates?
