Hello all. I'm a proud CDL holder as of this morning. Scheduled to start orientation at Roehl Monday morning.
I did my road/driving test this morning at the 3rd party school/tester I've been attending the past month. I obviously passed my road/driving test, but missed more points than I think I should have. It was the tester's very first evaluation he had ever done. An experienced tester was in the back seat. They spent much of the time talking to each other about the route, and even disagreeing about certain details. At the end of the route, the noobie tester told me that I did a good job, and passed. When I asked how many points I missed, he told me that I don't need to worry about that because passing is passing, and handed me my secret envelope to take to the MVD. I saw my points and score during the paperwork at the MVD though. I'm not happy.
I scored very high on all written tests, and missed zero points on backing/parking tests, and zero points on pre-trip inspection.
Anyway, here's my question... Do carriers and companies even have a way to know what my road/driving score is? Can they call the school or the MVD and ask what my road/driving score was? If so, then I'm not happy, because I was docked points that I absolutely disagree with. If it truly is a pass/fail thing, and future potential employers (including Roehl) will never know what my actual score is, then I'll just settle down and shrug it off.
I appreciate anyone who has first-hand knowledge or experience on this subject.
Thanks very much.

No worries. If you got it you GOT IT! They have no way of knowing how you did. Don't worry about it.
papawheelie Thanks this. -
You will be OK.Even the doctor that graduates at the bottom of the class is still called a doctor. You've got your CDL it that is the first step.Best of luck out there.
papawheelie Thanks this. -
Starter companies all work the same way in this area: They evaluate your driving skills with their instructors and make their decisions. No one will ever know if you passed your test by the skin on your teeth or as valdevictorian.
Congratulations. Now go find a job!LaBubba and papawheelie Thank this. -
It's important to me to make the very best impression to potential employers/customers/etc. And, if I am possibly going to lose out on preferred positions to other guys who had better scores on their road/driving test, then I'm not happy about that.
I'm hoping that you guys are right, and that I don't need to worry about that. I would like to think that Roehl will make their own assessment of my abilities and character during orientation and training the next few weeks, versus looking at the embarrassing score that I received this morning. -

Don't let these people fool you. Your CDL score is now part of your PERMANENT record. The points you lost will haunt you just like those days you played hookie back in Junior High. Let me tell you mister. I think you could use a few weekends pounding erases.

Thanks guys. I do feel better. I'll settle down now and shrug it off.
The group of students is getting together tomorrow, so I'll be interested to see what kind of scores the other three (3) guys ended up with who also had the noobie tester this morning.
Have a good one! -

They can find out thru the school what your actually scores was, but you'll be fine if you got your Cdl A license thats all that companies worry about. Do you got your license or not, now that you got it forget everything that your school taught you. They taught you how to get a CDL A license but not how to drive a semi!
LaBubba and papawheelie Thank this.
