that goes with properly working brakes and being aware of your surroundings.

    OR

    paying attention.

a faster truck requiring more distance is a well know give in. but that's not what causes accidents.

lack of driver awareness is what causes accidents.

it's a contributing factor to accidents, I'll grant you that it's not the only cause.

    Correct,Melton.

BUT to all those who like driving 75 and faster,
i don't see any off you putting the actual numbers off how much stopping distance you have at that speed compared to a truck doing 55mph.
    (somebody pls do)

Secondly, most off you are driving drumbrakes with at best a cheap version off ABS.
Not exactly the kind off equipement which is known for good brakes.
(look at the image portayed in the movies off empty semi's braking hard, they skid allover the place which sadly isn't far from the thruth)

While Snowwy has a point that the awareness off the driver is important,
if your braking distance is greater than the distance left ,you will have an accident.
And the faster you go , the longer it takes to stop.:yes2557:

    Last point:
Most off the argument behind wanting to drive 75mph is an economic one.
    Wanting more miles.
So basicly, you are asking to sacrefice safety in favor off money.
What if you earned the same amount driving 55mph,would you still want to drive 75?

here's the thing about driving faster.

10 hours equates to 200 miles. times 5 days equates to 1000 miles. isn't that more money????

the other drawback. is some people are like me. i hate the west coast states cuz 55 makes me tired more faster then 75.

some people would argue that slower is relaxing. well, that could be true. but too relaxed also leads to tiredness. i'm perfectly fine driving 75. 55 gets on my nerves. it's just like driving in the winter. if i have to slow down to 30 or slower. i'll pull over and wait till daylight and the roads get plowed. cuz going nowhere really gets on my nerves.

as far as speed and accidents. the only places your gonna find speed is on open road. where traffic is light. not in the cities. so really your chances are less for an accident. and very rarely are associated with stopping distance. it's more like doing some other stupid stuff instead of keep your eyes on the road.

BUT, i'm not ruling out the scenario either. cuz anything can happen out there.

and on the fact of braking power. you'd be amazed how fast you can stop when all the drums are brand new. not old and warped.

snowwy your right I got an overweight csa paper to give knight but the dot officer in mo did not issue me a warning or a ticket i had 36,600 on my tandems, he said I was allowed up to 36,000 in mo on my drives and tandems i thought every state was up to 34,000 unless you had a permit for over weight! Kentucky state sent me a letter stating they would not issue any points since they think dealing with murders, rapists, drug dealers, and convicted felons was more important and did not want to waste any kentucky tax payers money on me in a federal court in ky to decide how many points to issue me lol! God I love when politicians and law makers actually start using their brains!
