Senator wants on-board recorders

Well we knew this day was coming.

 

I'll cite myself, and state that greedy insurance companies are killing the common working stiff these days. I'll also note that the desired and/or newly introduced legislation by retarded democrats has increased from 13% in 2003 to 100% through 2007.

Only a person of her caliber - as mayor of San Francrisco, she supported a city ban on handguns for Gay Bay, only to be caught later with one herself - could come up with this stuff.

I often have trouble in deciphering who is the biggest kommunist in this country anymore - Feinstein, Pelosi, or Hitlery. To tough to call........

 

Hmmm... Maybe I missed something???? According to our other forum members Bush was/Is the one destroying the trucking industry.

EOBRs are already here...maybe not to the extent that the establishment wants, but they're here. Especially with the Qualcomms....you think your company doesn't know exactly what you do and when you do it? When I was with Schneider, they had the ability to dump the Qualcomm and tell when we missed a shift....more than I want 'em to know about my business.
But, at the same time, what's the chance that this may help in the HOS fight? If they can see cold hard facts about how the rules force us to "get creative" maybe some real change would take place.
Oh man, did I actually say that? Jeex, I need a nap.......

 

The current HOS rules are only a feel good measure. It is all about the bottom line, making money. Just think of how many more trucks it would take to move all the freight if everybody had to run 100% legal.

What is the DOT, trucking companies, shippers & receivers going to do when an unload takes longer then planned and you are over the 14 hour driving rule and must drive 15 to 60 minutes to find a truck stop?

I've often stated that those who resort to name calling, stereotyping, and misinformation are among the more poorly educated of people who post on these forums. Posts such as this one would seem to reinforce this premise.

I've also often come out in favor of on board recording devices since these may help alleviate problems of laggard shippers and receivers who waste so much of our workday. On the other hand I'm the guy who just fireballed eleven hundred miles in a little more than sixteen hours in order to not be late for Thanksgiving dinner. I have mixed feelings about recorders...

That's exactly the behavior that warrants on board recorders. But hey, as long as you made it home for Thanksgiving dinner right?

 

If the industry did it's job we wouldn't need to do such things. Every company that has a Q-Comm knows what their trucks are doing every second of every day. Even with the Q-Comm tracking everything the cost of getting caught is so low its funny. For the most part the only way they get caught is having a major bodily injury or death accident.

Most companies encourage getting the load there at all costs, breaking HOS has been and will always be until they start using EOBR's and pay the drivers by the hour for all time on line 3 & 4.

I drive OTR to make "X" amount of money a week, if I don't make amount I will stop driving. Like every driver on this board has stated it's the shippers and receiver that are the major cause of the HOS violations. How many shippers & receivers will take you over the 14 hour limit and then tell you to bad, you must leave the property or we will call the cops.

When the bulls**t stops 95% of violations will stop.
