No kidding.
True, this is why I run duals on my steering.
There is no shortage of guys that are all hung up on the flat tire issue. Sure it's an inconvenience but honestly how many flat tires do you guys have? I mean sure we have tires with stuff in them (nails, bolts ect.) but even then they're easy to see before they go totally flat. If you far from home just stop and pump it up a few times until you have time to fix it. And unless the drivers are strictly steering wheel holders you can still drive with a flat SS. Chain the axle up and go! I've seen some trailers with hooks welded to the frame just for that purpose. Dump the suspension, chain under the axle and refill the bags. There's even guys that's done it with drive axles. I'm not a huge fan of super singles but they do have their uses. We have 2 tractors and trailers with them but both were spec'ed to be as light as possible. The benefits are lighter weight and less rolling resistance. If you won't benefit from either then don't waste your time or money. They are not cheaper, they do not last longer, they are not better in bad weather, they can not carry more weight ect.....
Most of the people I come across that absolutely hate them were using them in the wrong applications. -
I drove a truck over 60k with the same drives without any issues, I think they were Bridgestone SS. When I dropped the truck off they had tons of tread left I'm not sure why you only got 30k but I'm assuming there is more issues tan you realize.
I also drove empty through a 3 state snow storm without an issue. I would agree with the statement above stating that they do not push the snow and water away as fast as there is more surface area to cover but if you are a good driver 99% your not going to know the difference. They save weight and are more fuel efficient any O/O or fleet manager would be stupid to not run them, easily puts another 2-3k per truck/year in the companies pocket.
