Just as flatbed drivers are proud of what they do I'm proud of what I do. I generally like everyone on this forum and hate to disagree about anything. I agree with most and all of us have our downfalls, most than others even at times or all the time. I dont know what flatbed goes through but have read some of the nightmarish posts. I also again say its harder work than what I do and dont downplay it at all. So maybe the ego part was wrong what I said and you shouldnt take a paycut for helping out another division. But from a business stand point money wise its what they do and we can beat it to death and not probably change anything. If you havent heard the new voicemail about the pay package being changed then I'd check your voicemail. Maybe itll change things or piss more people off. Everyone have a good holiday

expect to be pushed to work your brain, it is only 8 days so it is fairly fast paced. the instructors were all good, very knowledable and answered any and all questions. brush up on trip planning, and they expect you to be able to shift while double-clutching. we were held to high standards and honestly, even though it seemed harsh, the results are worth the minor frustrations.
accomodations?!? tents out behind the terminal.
NAH! seriously i was shocked at the "niceness" of the accomodations, they will put you up at the appleton Comfort Suites, continental breakfast every day, two to a room, room has 2 large beds, a sofa, and a small table. this place is very nice, one thing i wished Jessica had mentioned was the pool and hot tub.....so bring a swimsuit!!
backing at appleton will mostly be teaching you the 45 degree manuever for backing in tight quarters, we ended up taking a road trip up to marshfield where we got put "in the box". which btw was a blast and very eye-opening. marshfield has an awesome practice field.
overall i was very impressed with orientation, my driving and confidence improved by leaps.
i hope i go out tuesday so i dont lose too much of what i gained lol.
enjoy your hometime dorset

Hey lantern I seen you this morning on 90/94 in Wisconsin!!! I think...I was headed to Sioux Falls
Lantern Thanks this. -
At the Holiday in Eau Claire, WI. As always the Menards DC didn't have a mt available this morning when I delivered. I get shut down and right after my 14 expired ( I had like 40 minutes left) they sent me a pre plan to pick up from there. I hope they don't want a mt because I am not going to hunt one down. It is only a 164 mile load to a store in Hermantown, MN but it keeps me moving. I wish they would have gave me something to back it up though because with the Holiday weekend I may get stuck sitting.

It has nothing to do with ego and just like with any load you can't refuse it. This being "forced" to work for less pay. You seem to have a chip on your shoulders about flatbedders. No one ever claimed they were better, just that flatbed is more work, and it is. I've been pulling a van for 2 months and all I've done is gain weight.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

I'm better than you, and I'll let you know it!
