If you hold a TWIC that expires on or before December 31, 2014 and you are a U.S. citizen or U.S. national you will be able to replace your expiring TWIC with a 3-year Extended Expiration Date (EED) TWIC. $60 renewal using the Extended Expiration Date vs the full price of ~ $130 or so.

Something new that will save us money? WOW

Well you get 3 years instead of a full 5, but they add the 3 onto your current expire date.
I guess its because they are still trying to find a REAL purpose for these cards? -
$6/year discount?

The full 5yr TWIC costs about $125 and the 3yr extended renewal is only $60.
Let me look...ok, $125 for 5yrs is $25/yr and $60 for 3yrs is $20/yr.
But, you only need to do this over the phone, and only 1 trip to pickup the card.
So, none of the fingerprint and forms,,etc needed to just add 3 more years.
I think that was a good deal.
